I have a Frigidaire dryer that the timer will not shut off. dryer works but gives error 68 on disdplay. what does that mean

It means it has a stuck button.
I'm taking it that it's a Fridgidaire.
on the door you should have a model number that looks like this
AEQ6700FS .

I see that you are having trouble with your Frigidaire washer giving you an E68 error code. The E68 could be one or both of two possibilities.

First, it could be the heating element. If the heating element goes out, this means that you would be unable to get the water temperatures to hotter temperatures.

Second, it could be something going on with the main control board inside your washer.

With you receiving the E68 error code, I suggest that you give your washer a hard reset, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes. When you restore the power, if you are still receiving the E68 error code, I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. Hope this is helpful.

press and hold select and cancel buttons together for six seconds this will reset the board.there is also a chance that the door switch is bad and not seeing the door is shut

Error 68 can mean that your start button is stuck; check to make sure the button is not stuck in the pressed position behind the controls cover.

code 68 [aeq7000es series]relates to "stuck buttons, or control panel issues. Try to see if your dryer will give you the code for which button is stuck and try to wiggle it to free it up if stuck. If all buttons check out good then you most likely have a bad control panel ,and its time to find your best deal on one

this fault code means there is a stuck key on the control board.you need to disassemble the display panel and free up the stuck key if this does not work then the display panel and or control board need to be replaced

Thanks for using FixYa. E 68 error means that there is a leakage of current to the ground on heater or fuse opened. Also check the resistance of the NTC which should be around 50K ohms. If not then you need to replace the water inlet valve assembly.
