Hi there! if your trying to hook up your cable modem to your netgear g5608 wireless router, First you need to clone the mac address of your network interface card to your wireless router in order the cable modem will communicate with the router. most cable modem reg the mac address of the nic of your computer.. Once your done of cloning the mac address to your router save the settings and turn off the computer, router and the cable modem.. turn on the cable modem first after 15secs then wait all the lights lit and turn on the router wait all the lights lit and the computer. your will notice that all your light is lit on the router and try to pull up the browser.. Now if you want to connect your ps3 and your xbox 360.. once your wired computer can access the internet, you will not have a problem connecting your wireless devices, you just need to setup your ps3 and xbox360 to connect and use the automatic ip address detect from your wireless devices.. you could either use static ip address and auto detect that your router will assign to your wireless devices.. if you still have any problem connecting your devices.. please feel free to call email me at [email protected] or you can reach me at +09157222160.. good lick!!

If you are trying to hook up these components through an ethernet cable and they still won't connect, to you need re-install the router. After install you need to unplug the power to both the modem and the router. When powering up you need to plug the modem power in first. After you get the lights on the modem on and it is connected, then you can plug the power to the router in. The router will then connect and you should be able to connect through ethernet to any component. The wireless is a litte more difficult. You need to make sure that your wireless is compatible with the components. There are different wireless formats (B,G,and N) if you are compatible then you have to make sure the network is setup as open. If you have the wireless locked then your wireless components that receive signal will have to match the network key that is pre assigned or one that you choose.

I have two rj45 points looped with a router and xbox 360 plugged into both but only one will work at a time?

I would figure that you would start with the modem feeding the N300, then connecting the XBOX by cable to the netgear, and then using the laptop wirelessly through the netgear...The modem should feed the Netgear so the Netgear can split the signal...

There's no place on modem to hook router

Look for Ethernet jacks. You want to hook both your computer and your daughter's laptop to the router to out ports i.e. usually on the front side. The back side of router would hook using probably another Ethernet jack to your modem.

I ordered a wireless router so I can hook up my PS3. My computer is not compatible with wifi so I thought I'd just leave it hooked up to the modem. The instructions tell me to put the CD into my computer...

You have to use the computer to insert the CD

As your computer is not wireless compatible, you can have this connected to the router itself on the wired connections and use PS3 on wireless
Do NOT connect your computer to modem and also Netgear to modem.
Either one of them won't work. Instead connect modem to Netgear and computer to Netgear with an ethernet cable.
After this type of connection is made, try to setup the router with the CD inserted into computer.

This is how things work!

PS3 and Netgear WGR614 V7 Router

Basically the PS3 wireless settings needs to be configures with the Netgear wireless router settings.
To test if the modem is connects to the Internet, connect a computer into the modem, if it works then the modem is configured correctly. If it doesn't work, then contact your ISP and get them to test your modem connection.
For details on how to configure the PS3 click on the WEB link :-

My internet exployer windows will not reconize my wireless router. I changed from Knology to Mediacom cable. Before I changed I was able to go wireless. I called Mediacom and I was told to contact Netgear....

Hey Sheila,

Follow the below steps to reconfigure the router:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

RECONFIGURE:

1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
Hope this helps.

PROBLEMS SYNCING MY ROUTER TO MY XBOX. PLEASE HELP!

Ok plug everything in and Reset the router and modem wait a few minutes and try again.
Verify that that DATA cable at the Xbox's location works with a PC could be a simple bad data jack or patch cord. Do you get a connection failure like this? MTU failure?

The MTU(Maximum Transmission Unit) failure when testing the xbox's connection can be do to a few things because Xbox live requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. Sharing a slower internet connection with other PC's in the house can cause this error, The incorrect MTU setting in your routers programming can cause this error, The lack of firmware updates to your router can cause this error, an older modem from your service provider can cause this. Old or worn network cables and jacks and or RG(coax) cables if you have cable internet could cause this. Your Router or gateway could be incompatible with Xbox live.

Try a direct connection to the Xbox without a router and reset your modem before doing it. If your able to connect then you know its the router. If not you know its the modem or cables or jacks or even your Xbox if you havent tested it elsewhere.
You can tell your ISP to mail you the newest updated modem... sometimes they will have a guy just drop one off.

This is trial and error.
