Dyson switches sometimes will not click in the "ON" position and will make you hold it in for it to operate. This has a basic fix that cost no money. Rubber mallet. hit the switch right on top like you were to turn it on but with the mallet. It may take several hits but fixes 90% of my switch issues. It is not a temorary fix either. I have seen one redo on those and it was due to cust abuse.
The power switch cold be broken and not working.Check to see if the filter is clogged and check for a clogged hose or filter and unclog the hose and replace the filter.
It sounds Kirby has a new model with a new type of switch go back to the shop you bought it , if you have not read the manual , a tip , 1 look how the dustbag is connected it must be good connected if not the problem is there , second the hose the hose must be connected good because if not the problem is there more options are not there for the master switch . if its controlled that the switches are god pushed in by mechanic parts of the dustbag connector or hose connector , it must run and stay on power the dustbag is the one that is the most probable connection what maybe not enough is turned to the motor housing have a stabil working on -off switch. if it not does made difference go immediatly back to the shop. with proof of purchase, you get an other new one if its a factory failure. or the powercable was accidentially bruised between a door or linger behind the powerplug and that why its faltering maybe.

Often the switch on a vacuum cleaner is 'Push-to-turn-ON" and "Push-to-Turn-OFF". It sounds like the switch on your vacuum is broken-- so that it does NOT stay in the pushed position. Is that what it feels like?
That's the problem with dyson. They work for the first few months then start to break down. Your switch might need replacing or your cord connection is lose and causing it to short out and turn off.
The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.
