Waste Ink Counter Reset due to residual ink in the ink docking station only resolution apart from replacing the printer.

Service Mode: This printer has a service mode for service-related settings and for performing test prints. The operator panel buttons are used to enter the desired service mode.

With the printer powered off (but still plunged in), hold down the "Resume Button" and press the "Power Button" and hold them both down.

While holding down the "Power Button", release the "Resume Button" and then press and release the "Resume Button" twice.
Now release the "Power Button".

The indicator light should blink in green and the printer will make some noises.
You know you are in service mode if the green light stops flashing and stays green.

Select one of the following service mode functions by pressing the "Resume Button" the specified number of times listed below.
Each time you press the "Resume Button" the light will change color to let you know the button was pressed.

1 time = Service test print.
2 times = EEPROM information print.
3 times = EEPROM initialization
(4 times = Waste ink counter resetting)
5 times = Destination settings
6 times = Print head deep cleaning

Then press the "Power Button" one time to perform selected function.

If you press the "Power Button" two times it will take you out of service mode.

To Re-iterate :
You have to be pushing down on the resume button or the printer will just turn on when you press the power button.

Startin over.
Hold down the Resume Button then press the Power Button and hold them both down. The light between the buttons should come on green but the printer should not turn on. If the printer turns on at this point the printer does not recognize that the Resume Button is being pressed.

While still holding the Power Button down release the Resume Button and press it again twice. At this point the green light should change colors each time the Resume Button was pressed.

Then release the Power Button and you should be in service mode.
Once in service mode if you press the power button without first pressing the resume button the printer will turn off

Error code says 5c00 on my canon pixma mp500 printer. cant find my manual to figure out what the code means

The error code 5c00 usually means that there is a paper jam or paper path restriction.
If the path is not restricted, the printer will need servicing.
If you want a downloadable user manual for your printer go to

5C00 error on Canon iP90 printer

The alternate flashing of orange and green indicates a service call error, something that needs to be taken into a canon authorized service facility for repair. 4 alternate blinking of these lights indicates a problem with the purge unit, most likely requiring replacement.

Service error 5C00? what's that?

Service error 5C00 is a purge unit error. The purge unit like a spitoon to the printhead where is stops. There is a sensor in the purge unit; when it is blocked (usually by ink build up), that error is given. The error indicates that the purge unit may be full or at least gunked up. It may be possible to clean the purge unit and sensor to make the error go away. I base this on information learned with experience on another Canon product (Model i560). Hope this helps...

Service error 5C00

Service error 5C00 might indicate the purge system.

The "rattling sound " is probably coming from the (gears of-) socalled purge unit. May be one ( or both) of the ink tanks is not properly put back in again,or the printhead-lock is not locked. and the purge system is blocked.

Remove the ink tanks and remove the printhead, closw the printhead-lock, close the printhead cover, switch the printer of, switch the printer on again. If the rattling sound is still there, than you might have an expensive problem to be solved.
If the rattling sound is gone, there is probably something wrong with the printheadlock.
