Noticed a yellow hue in the centre of the image projected by BOTH of my second-hand Sony VPL PX40's.

Bit of a common problem with Sony projectors of the era that they often had problems with fading and/or cracking of one or more the LCD panels - especially the blue ones for some reason, leading to the type of problem you are experiencing. No point in swapping components either as they will both have similar faults - although replacing an LCD in a video projector is almost impossible without the manufacturers jigs to mechanically align them afterwards anyway...

Blue glare

HI there

This might only be a dusty lens on the inside. But it could also be a faulty Mainboard or LCD's.

Take it to a Service Centre and ask them to check it out for you. They normally quote first and then repair if you give them a go-ahead , you've got nothing to lose.

Bulb Reset issue

I had the same problem and called Sony, they just said to keep trying what the manual says to do, but make sure the unit is in standby mode. I tried in powered mode and in standby mode many times and it did not work. Then I tried again the next day when the unit had been in standby mode for an extended time period. I hit the four buttons like the manual said, all four in quick succession. I also tried the four buttons in many different sequences from what the manual said. When I powered back up the lamp timer was set to zero, finally! I think having the unit in standby for an extended time was the key. The Sony rep really emphasized the need for the unit to be in standby.
