I already have a Fax number different from my home telephone number.
I also tried to unplug everything and reset my Fax, but it's not receiving faxes. As I said before, the FUNCTION KEY is not working, and I cannot change the setup that I had before with ATT.

Is there any way that you could help me to repair this key..? As you know, money is thight.

    Thanks in advance!

It seems too coincidental that the function button would stop working the day the service changed from AT&T to Comcast (unless it was broken before that but didn't need to be used for anything until now). It does beep when you hit it. It's just that nothing changes on the screen. The screen is set on DRPD mode. If someone trys to fax, I can pick up the receiver, then hit Start/Copy, hang up the receiver and the fax will print. What isn't working right now is the fax machine won't pick up on it's own like it did for me up until the day I switched to Comcast.

  • realtornelly Jul 12, 2009

Yes, I do have a manual, but it says the same thing you are saying: Start with the FUNCTION key to reset the Fax.

Unfortunately, this is the key that is not working.

emissionwiz tried to be very helpful, but, unfortunatly, the problem started with the change in companies and a malfunction of a Fax key.

WITHOUT THE FUNCTION KEY WORKING YOU CAN'T ACCESS THE MENU SO U CAN SET UP THE MACHINE TO RECIEVE FAXES, YOU MUST GET THE UNIT REPAIRED BY A AUTHORIZED CANON REPAIR STATION.

THIS KEY MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY A CIRCUIT BOARD FAULT UNDER THE KEY IT SELF, THE CONTACT PAD IS DEFECTIVE, SHORT OF REPLACING THAT CIRCUIT BOARD THERE IS NO WAY TO WORK AROUND THIS, AS I SAID WITHOUT THAT KEY YOU CAN'T ACCESS THE MENU TO SET UP TO RECEIVE FAXES

OK JUST READ YOUR LAST POST, HAVE READ THE SAME THING SO MY EXPERT ADVICE IS YOU NEED TO HAVE THE MACHINE REPAIRED, UNTIL THE "FUNCTION KEY" IS FIXED U ARE STUCK, BUT THE REPAIR MAY COST MORE THAN THE MACHINE DID SO A NEW ONE IS ALSO A REASONABLE CHOICE OVER REPAIRING THIS ONE.

I did the same thing...comcast stated that they could not get my other fax number and gave me a temp.number.... to check the line ..plug a phone in it and listen for a dial tone... if you hear it the lines good and if you need the number for it ,you will have to call customer service and they will give it if its a tempoary number they issued....another thing your fax may do is, go into default mode, and you will have to enter EVERYTHING back into it..Try unplugging it and then reset it...hopfully not and I hope this helps you and GOOD LUCK with Comcast...they ****...hope you have better luck

We recently switched our phone line carrier to Comcast. Since then, some of customers (but not all) cannot send faxes to us or receive faxes from us. Specifically, we can't communicate with ANY customer in...

Start with COMCAST. They are your service provider, and if everything was working well before you switched then they need to make it right. Since you are using the word customer, this means that the service disruption is affecting your business. Call customer support now.

Not able to receive Faxes from a Canon Faxphone L80

Describe 'Lots of noise'.....was it static? Or high pitched varying tones (also known as handshake) Normally the two beeps are after the 'handshake tones' which means that the fax is awaiting an answer from sending machine. If you don't mind, email me your fax number so that I can hear exactly what you are hearing. [email protected]

Cannot receive faxes

Make sure that the telephone line from the wall is plugged into "LINE" and not "PHONE" on the fax machine. You might also call the fax number from a different phone to see if you can hear the fax tones.

Canon Faxphone L80 - Alan Silva

To send a fax you do not need to enter anything into your fax. You have to make sure that you connect the telephone line to it's desgnated connector. You dial a number to send as if you are calling form a normal phone. If you ever get a ringing tone press start. You can enter any data trough the data registration after you make sure your fax is functioning properly.

Canon l80

Most probably you have the machine set to "manual receive." Change the receive mode to "auto" or "Fax" mode.
