The only way to find out is take it to a Janome authorized dealer who has a repairman to check it out and see if parts are available. If you love it as much as I love my MC3000 (from 2002) you might find a good used one on ebay at a reasonable cost. I found a brand new one a few years ago to replace the one blown away in a tornado :o) I just didn't want to get a new model as I don't think new ones are made with the same precision as the old ones.

Will not select new stitches and needle stuck in one positioh?

Mechanical machines require frequent cleaning and oiling to keep them running. Even if your machine may be an early electronic, it most like still has mechanical parts that need oiling. Computerized machines, on the other hand, should be oiled ONLY as instructed in the manual. It is possible the stitch selector and needle mechanism have seized due to old oil.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Is a Bernina 430 worth fixing if the circuit board goes bad

Ooooh, that's a tough question. Circuit boards (computer boards, in general) could be costly to replace. However, a computerized machine will most likely, at some point in its life, require board replacement. It just depends how much you like the machine and what you are willing to spend. This model series was discontinued some years ago and replaced with bigger/better?/costlier machines. Some people are less attracted to the 400 series because it has to be connected to a computer to do embroidery. Of course, there is always the possibility that when you replace one board, another may go bad. Such is life with most things computer. If a donor machine could be found with a good board, the cost may not be as much as trying to find a new board or going through Bernina. You can check what it would cost to have a Bernina dealer fix it for you. On the other hand, if you or someone you know is very computer-savvy, well, you know. Just remember, even if you replace it with another computerized machine, you could be facing the same decision in the future.

Pfaff sewing machine creative 1473 is not functioning.my technician told me to replace the front panel with control circuit.

If you are concerned about the cost or whether the diagnosis is correct, take it to another technician for a second opinion. However, if it is a circuit board, you will need to make a decision whether to repair or replace it.

What's a fair price to repair a light bulb on 440QE?

Linda, The light bulb can fail for a number of reasons. If the power board has had the output transistor for the lighting circuit fail the 600.00 is reasonable. I would get a second opinion. Impossible to diagnose by email.

I have been fixing Bernina's for 46 years and would not try to repair a board. Just saying. BERNINA has a replacement charge and gives credit for return of core and at a reasonable cost. ($150-250) Be sure you are dealing with a reputable BERNINA dealer

Fuse blew on bernina 180 artista sewing machine advised to go up to a 5 amp fuse blew another part now has a small burn hole in it Please refund my $30 I may need a new circuit board

Herein is a lesson to very firmly learn .... fuses are rated for a reason .... NEVER, EVER put a bigger fuse in if the last one blew, because it blew for a reason. A fuse is there to protect your equipment from damage and for your safety ... if you put a bigger fuse in and your equipment gets damaged as a result, you've only yourself to blame. Just be thankful it didn't burst into flames and if you think I'm being dramatic ... dont ... fuse 'abuse' is one of the biggest causes of house fires. Whoever 'advised' you to do this wants his/her ears bashed and if you paid money for this advice, you desrve it all back plus the cost of repairing the damage it caused !!!

During our last storm my Bernina 170 just died. I had it on a surge protector, but it just doesn't turn on. While I love this machine, I also have a B 165, so I thought I would try my hand at fixing it...

If this is an older model, the power supply module is a little sensitive to mains spikes - I've had three that have suffered a similar fate and all have required replacement power-supplies - the switching transistor gets blown and this is a job only for the qualified service engineer. My suggestion, I'm afraid, is to have it checked-over by a service engineer. There is a glass fuse on the circuit board, but if blown, it's usually for a reason and 9 times out of 10, just replacing it results in a second blown fuse !!!
