This is a classic sign of too much detergent. Are you only using one tablet? Too low of a washing temperature could also be your culprit. Dishwasher detergent needs to be washed with at least 120 degree water. Check to make sure your supply is hot (if it's plumbed to intersect with your faucet, just check faucet hot water supply temp). I'm not sure why you're running it on a two hour cycle, dishwashers can generally do the job in about 40 minutes. The grit is probably because there are food particles in your food trap.
