I have audio but no picture, just "Video 1"

Im trying to hook up my direct tv cable. All of the cords are hooked up correctly but I can't receive a picture, just audio. I tried to do the channel surf thing but that didn't work either. Please help.

Hi Daniel Evans, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? What is your set up? Are you connecting directly to the tv or is there an audio system in between?

So I have a direct TV cable box and a tv. The TV has a red and white (no yellow) jack in the back. I connected them but I only got audio, no picture. I can provide pictures if needed.

Ok, thanks for the info. In the back of the tv, what you are doing is connecting just the audio from the Direct TV box. Most new tv don't have the yellow RCA input since this is an analog component, and most of the new tv's are digital. I know the Direct TV box does have the white, red and yellow RCA cable, but it also have the HDMI output (this means going out of...). Just get yourself an HDMI cable which you can get now for some $5.00 to $10.00 and connect it from the Direct TV box to the back of your TV. Make sure to read the label where you connect the cable ( HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc...). Once connected, turn your tv on, your remote control should have a key called "input" or "source", press that key until the correct input is display, (HDMI 1, HDMI2, etc...). If everything is correct, the TV should display the Direct TV programs. Best of luck.

SOURCE: Need help connecting Receiver to TV, DVD, VCR players

Take the audio outputs on the TV set and connect up to the The video 1 inputs to the receiver, BUT use the audio part of the video 1 input and leave the yellow video input blank. Now turn on the TV set, put the TV set on a channel, turn on the receiver and select the video 1 input and you should have the TV audio coming from the receiver. Good Luck.

SOURCE: sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.

Do not use HDMI thru your receiver. Go directly from the Cable box to the TV. Connect coaxial digital or optical to your receiver. Your receiver uses HDMI version 1.1 or 1.2, which is riddled with issues. If you want to read about them, Google HDMI Problems and you can read for hours. Long of the short of it is; Don't pass HDMI thru your receiver, use the receiver for audio only. Hope this answers the question. Sorry for the bad news! I'm in the industry and have been dealing with these issues for a couple years now.

SOURCE: The OSD on my Harman/Kardon

Put the receiver in stand by mode (amber light) and hold on the tone button for 8 seconds. This will reset the receiver. After it says reset, let go of the tone button and wait about 30 seconds. Then hit OSD and you should be good to go.

Picture but no sound when connected to dish network hopper dvr

Lauren Barnett,

How do you have the Hopper hooked up? What TV-to-receiver cable connection are you using? If it's a component cable with three red, white, and yellow prongs at each end, make sure you have it correctly hooked up to the proper ports on the back of both the TV and receiver. You could also try, if you've already verified that, unlpugging the receiver's power cord from its outlet for at least ten seconds and then plugging it back in. I hope this helps!

I hooked up my wii on av1 with a component cable with audio on audio 1 and i have sound but no picture.

If I am reading this right, you are only hooking up one cable for audio. There is another cable needed for video. This jack is normally color coded yellow and labeled video out/in. You can use your audio cable to try this and then you will picture but no audio.

I have a cable box connected to reciever and was working fine for months, now i get no picture on tv only sound. I use hdmi cable out to tv that also uses my ps3 to tv which is working fine. What...

I don't know what kind of TV you have and what kind of output capabilities you have but, while your receiver will transfer your video signal, it is not the ideal way to hook it up. The port you are using may have to be reset somehow or, may have gone bad. Ideally you want to hook all video componenets directly to TV then, use, digital optical is best, audio out from TV to receiver. If you have more than 1 input in to TV, you can run your PS3 and cable box directly to TV, using the TV's menu to select which you are using, then, run your audio out to receiver.

Hook your Xbox to tv via HDMI, then hook TV to reciever through digital optical or composite cables. If you try to get your picture through receiver first, you may get picture and sound but, sound may be delayed and picture might not be the best. Bettter to run through tv first then provide sound to receiver.

I have direct satalite tv VR 6050 kenwood surround sound tuner vizio tv, dvd player, and a vcr, Im confused on how its hook up and what order should it go something like sat in to sat box to kewood...

that reciever is not going to carry a hi definition video signal, it doesnt have either hdmi or component video inputs.

you can still use it, but if you run the picture through the reciever, it will have poor quality.

heres how you are supposed to hook it up:

find the single,m yellow video jack on your sattelite box, and hook that up to the "tv" video input, then hook the laft and right audio outputs from the cable box into the "tv" audio left and right inputs on the receiver. hook up the dvd player and vcr in the same manner, using "dvd" and "VCR" (if labeled as such) inputs on the reciever.

finally, send the tv video and audio outputs to the composite video in and left/right audio inputs on the tv. the video will be running through the reciever, and when you use the reciever to switch the sound source, the video will also be changed. you could get better picture quality if you ran the video directly to the tv using component (seperate green, red and blue) outputs/inputs, and bypassing the reciever on the video end, but then you would have to change inputs on the tv AND reciever to change from your cable box to your dvd player.

Im trying to hook up my wii to my surround sound and i have a denon avr-789 and im hooking it up to the aux outlet and im only getting sound no video

Connect all of your cables to your display and then connect another set of cables to your audio variable out from the television to the input you wish to get sound from on the receiver. Then make sure your tv is selected to the input you plugged the wii into, for example, Front video or Video 1 etc etc.

Setting up Cable with HDMI

Yes, the firmware on your hdtv box has an old firmware, I switched my old hdtv box with a newer one box and the problem was solved. It seems that it can't work if your hooking up with DVI to HDMI cable to your receiver to tv. Your hd box must have an HDMI out otherwise it causes problems. I also have rx-v661 and i finally hooked up everything HDMI to the receiver and then to the tv and it was having the problem you speak of. After I switched out the hd box for a newer one everthing worked fine.
