Known problem for many acer laptops like the acer one line. there is no real fix for it without replacing the power supply board inside the laptop. (it's not the battery or charger)

Hi,

The points of failure can either be on the AC adapter (charger) or the power port (or motherboard if the DC in is integrated ) . If your computer is still covered by the warranty , then its better to call the acer support so that they can run some troubleshooting and determin which of the two parts are failing .

Thank you.

Dennis

Damaged power port, take it to a electronic's technician and have them repair or replace the power port.

Check the power settings. It may be turning off the NIC/Wireless Card when you are running on battery to preserve battery life. Turn it on.

SOURCE: acer aspire 5920 wont start. light in AC chrger

This is a sample of what you can try to do to diagnose a non-starting computer, If these don’t work, realize that most likely a system board (motherboard) has failed or the actual power trim strip above the keyboard has failed.

  1. Unplug the computer, then take the battery out, push the power button and hold it for about 30 seconds. Plug the system back in (leave battery out) and push the power button. If it starts, Great! If not unplug go to the next step.
  2. You should still have the battery out and the power unplugged. Now turn the laptop over. Take off all the covers and pull out the hard drive and ram and wireless card. Find the screw that has a symbol kind of like this its the CD rom drive screw. Now pull the drive out. Pick one stick of ram and put it back in the computer. Flip it over open it plug it in and hit the power button. If it does not fire up then unplug it and switch the ram. Plug it back in and hit the power button again. If it doesn't start up, unplug the computer and go to the last step.
  3. Pull the memory out and find the screws that hold the keyboard on. There are symbols in the plastic there should be 2 screws holding it in. Now in the battery compartment, there are several screw at the back edge of the computer take them out and also the ones in the battery in the center strip. Some are silver and some are black. Once you have the screws out of the battery area flip the computer over and open the lid. The strip just below the LCD with the power button and controls will now be able to be lifted up. You will probably have to lightly get an edge started before it will come up. There should be several little cables hooked to it. Flip the control panel over and look for some screws holding the keyboard in. I think there's 2. Lift up the keyboard. Making sure there's nothing touching anything important and then plug the computer in. Carefully hit the power button and see if the computer tries to start. If it does try it will probably beep at you. Unplug it and put a stick of ram in it. Plug it in and try to start it again. If not, unplug the computer and Go to the next step.
  4. Carefully put the keyboard and control strip in place. Flip the computer over and loosen all the screws that hold the computer together. Flip the computer over again and pull the keyboard and control strip up again. Flex the inner aluminum plate that was under the keyboard lightly. Plug in the computer and then hit the power button. If it tries to start, Great! put it together again in the reverse process.
If it does not, there are 2 possible things I would suspect the Control strip or the mainboard. If you don't get the computer to start back up please put it back together so you remember where all the screws go. Even if you plan to get another mainboard put it back together.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5520 Power Problems! :(

1. Actually the problem is not with the charger / adapter!

2. The plug-in port / jack of the laptop has become loose.

3. Don't try to work out the charging by adjusting the adapter plug with different angles. It will just damage the plug-in port (the wire inside the port will become loose and unaligned)!

4. Contact the Acer authorised service center for repair / replacement of that plug-in port / jack in the laptop! It'll just cost some bucks!

Power problem, nothing show that my laptop is charging

If your Acer Aspire 5920 series laptop is not charging when the AC adapter is connected, it is likely that the power cord is not properly connected. Make sure that the power cord is securely connected to the laptop and that the power switch is in the "on" position. If the problem persists, you may need to replace the power cord or contact the manufacturer for assistance.

My acer wont start up

Acer laptops allow you to take your work and entertainment on the go.

You can work on a presentation during a long flight or watch a DVD in the middle of a park.

Acer laptops can do this because they are powered by batteries, allowing the laptop to run without having to be plugged into a power source.

Normally, the battery can be recharged by plugging the laptop back into a power socket.

But certain problems can keep the battery from charging.

Electrical Connection

For laptops to charge, they need to be connected to a power source.

Although it may look like you have the cable plugged in correctly on the Acer, make sure that the cord is firmly plugged into the power socket.

There should be a light on the Acer keyboard as well as a power symbol on the taskbar for your operating system that tells you whether the laptop is running off electrical or battery power.

If it is plugged in, make sure that this icon shows that it is on electrical power.

Also check the socket where the Acer is plugged in and make sure that it isn't turned off at the main circuit breaker.

Battery

Turn the Acer over and make sure that the battery is properly placed in the battery compartment. Most laptops will have locks that keep the battery securely in place.

These locks can sometimes come loose.

Use a piece of strong tape as a temporary measure to keep a loose battery in place.

Clean the terminals on the battery to ensure that there is a good connection.

Remove the battery from the battery compartment.

Apply rubbing alcohol to a lint-free cloth. Rub this cloth over the shiny metal terminals on the battery.

Over time, batteries lose their ability to be recharged.

If neither of the aforementioned steps works, you may just have a bad battery.

Check with Acer or other vendors to find a replacement for your model.

BIOS Update

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) controls a number of basic functions for a computer, such as assigning the hard drives and other system functions.

The BIOS also controls the battery charging function.

Certain Acer models have a bad BIOS that operates the computer normally but doesn't charge the battery.

To solve this problem, you need to perform an operation called Flashing the BIOS where you download a new version of the BIOS and upload it to your Acer.

Check on the Acer support site to see whether your computer model could possibly be affected by this.

Adapter

The power adapter, the part that plugs into the Acer from the power socket, can go bad.

Check for a power light on the adapter.

If the light is not lit, you probably have a bad adapter.

Replacement adapters can be purchased from Acer or other online vendors.

Acer aspire 5520 wont power up.. no charging light when connected to mains

Try another charger. If it turns on and chargers the unit you are currently using needs to be replaced. Do not leave your charger plugged in after charging your battery as this will shorten its life.

Hi, please help me regarding on my problem in my acer aspire 5710.. While I was using it I heard a beep tone that it was low on power and save my documents, things i have been doing after a while after I...

Does this happen a lot that you let it die when it has low power? This can damage the computers internal software for such operations, it is meant to be turned off through the off button under start etc. Try keeping it off of power, meaning take out the battery and the plug and leave it sitting for a cuple hours this should reset the system, it might help. Other than that I do not know, go to a local computer fixer persoN! !!

The power button doesnt seem to be working

It sounds like a short in the button itself. If you have a soldering gun, take it apart and resolder the connection. This is typical for Acer laptops.
It's either the button itself or the jack where the power supply plugs in. It's not real difficult.

Ac adapter connection inside laptop doesnt work, light for battery charging will not turn on and will not charge

You adapter may be faulty, check it with a multi-meter, the voltage reading for a functioning adapter should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter.
If you do not get a voltage reading then the adapter is faulty and you need to get a replacement adapter.
If you get a reliable voltage reading at the adapter plug, then connect it into the laptop and wriggle this plug. If the charge LED blinks. then the power connector on the laptop is loose/faulty and needs repairing.

Acer aspire 3500 wont hold charge or turn on

I had to buy an new ac/dc plug piece off of ebay (cost only like $3 bucks) to sodder onto the mother board of my Acer. Somehow the little plastic/metal piece you plug into your computer comes off the mother board really easy. Acer wanted me to purchase a whole new mother board (at frigging $350), which, frankly wasn't an option. So I bought the little plug gizmo, soddered it on, and I'm doing good now.

I CANNOT OPEN!!!

Hi, Try running you laptop with the battery and the AC adapter. If by plugging in your adapter there is no light indicator likewise or no powering up, then presumably there is a problem with the power supply circuitry in the motherboard. Normally the laptop should work with just the adapter, just the battery or both the battery and the adapter. If it will not perhaps your best bet is to seek professional repair service since this would require opening the motherboard. In most instances, this involves an smc fusible link, regulator transistors or even just cold solder or loose connections. Hope this be of some help/idea. post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
