Usually a bit of house cleaning will help. You need to disable unnecessary startup/running processes/programs. Remove ALL toolbars and unnecessary Extensions from your web browsers. The sidebar is a memory hog, consider adding more memory. If your version of windows vista is 32 bit, it will only support 3.80+or-GBs so 4GBs would be the limit. Have you cleaned the fan, vents, and heatsink lately? Use a can of compressed Air to remove dust, dirt to restore air flow. You could always do a Full Factory Recovery, but that would be a last resort, it can be quite a long process.

you could try this

go to the start button
go to the search box
and type in cmd
this may bring up a black box
type into the box chkdsk

and windows may check and poss repair the disk for you

failing that
restart the laptop pressing the F8 key
this may take you into a repair options box
try some of these options
my first choice is asways the last known good configuration option
and if that dont work

i go through the other options of repair

Remove the power adapter and battery from the laptop.
Remove the plastic buttons bezel. This is where the power button and some LED lights are. There are usually indentations on one of the sides that will help you to lift it up. It's held in by clips, so be careful as these bezels snap easily if they flex too much. Now remove the screws holding in the keyboard. Lift the keyboard up very very slowly until you see the ribbon cable that connects it to the laptop's motherboard. Lift the tab on the connecter and pull the cable out carefully. You have now removed they keyboard.

if you go to www.ebay.com and go to catagories and search laptops find the search bar and look for acer aspire 5520 screens you should find several places selling them

depending on what sort you go for i think they range from about £60 - £75 ish for a shinny glossy one

type in msconfig in the run box or in a CMD box (open as admin) then retick the entry Acer Backup Manager in the start up tab. Reboot and you shoud be prompted to make a new set of back up disks.

i think you have change somthing in the browser.
have before alsoprobl with it reset to default!!!!!

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device control panel admistrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall hope this helps if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem Close all open programs
