Sounds like metal against metal in crossarm between needle/threading area and handwheel. sounds as if it needs lubrication. Also when engaging embroidery carriage machine stutters when starting the process like it isoff a track. Have been very careful to make sure there is no interference with track. when I purchased machine was never told how to maintain itby the Janome dealer. Thank you for your help

The information should be in the manual, here is a link for a manual if you don't have one, if the oiling instructions is not in the manual, the contact the dealer you bought the machine from and ask them if the machine is self oiling or not?

SOURCE: Bernina 180E or Janome MC10000?

I have the Janome 10001 and I love it. I have thousands of designs and they are easily accessible on-line and I can download the designs onto my flash card quickly and the cards were relatively easy to find.
I have just purchased a 180E Bernina. I have heard it is a much better machine and Bernina does have a wonderful reputation and is supposed to be the best there is. I have found that the dealers near London Ontario are not customer service oriented. I attended a store and am still waiting for someone to phone me back with information. I did email Bernina on-line and they have been exceptionally helpful and willing to offer suggestions, and information and solutions. The dealer just north of London was not even interested in helping me at all and basically blew me off. I think once you find a reliable dealer you are ok. If you get either of these machines, email me and I can help you with whatever you need to get up and running. ([email protected])
I am currently moving so have not got the Bernina set up right now. ONce I get it going and use it for a while I can give you a better idea of which one is better. I might just keep both but not sure.
Good luck!

SOURCE: thread keeps breaking

Have you checked any edge the thread might contact for knicks which should be files or sanded down? Also, I had to replace my bobbin case after a number of years as it had kind of stretched out and allowed my bobbin to pop around and consequently broke many threads.

My singer 227 m was a gift i accidently took the bobbin out now dont know how to put back in also need the settings they need to be on please cuz the top thread is reallyy loose

If the upper thread tension is off, most likely it is threaded incorrectly or it is not seated in the tension disks. Remove the upper thread, RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct. Set the upper tension to the midway point between high & low number to start and then tweak it from there.

A manual for your machine would be a tremendous help.

Instruction Manual Singer 227

SINGER Installing Front Load Bobbin Tutorial

Be sure to keep your machine clean and oiled--ONLY fresh, good quality sewing machine oil or liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube from the hardware store. Open the top lid, the side over the needle bar and the bobbin area. Slowly rock the handwheel and apply ONLY 1-2 drops every place where metal rubs against metal. AVOID belts, plastic gears, cams. Be sure to move selector dials and levers and oil those metal mechanisms too. Doing this every 40 hours of sewing will keep your machine happy and healthy. Also, remember to change out the needles frequently--every 8 hours of use.

Manual for Kenmore 158120

Sears carries manuals for their products.

The Kenmore that I had, takes the needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine. Then the needle is threaded front to back.

You machine is an oldie but "goodie." Make sure you clean and oil (only fresh good quality sewing machine oil or Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube) 1-2 drops every place where metal rubs against metal. Open the top, the area where the bobbin is located, and the side covering the needlebar. Gently rock the handwheel and watch where things move. Do NOT oil CAMS, plastic/nylon gears, or belts. Oh, don't forget to move the dials and levers and lube those too to keep them moving freely. Do this every 40 hours or so of sewing (or after it has been stored or unused for a period of time) and your machine will serve for many more years. If the machine starts laboring or seizing, it needs TLC.

My janome 10000 is running rough, use to run very smoothe, how do I service that?

look in the operation manual to see if you have to oil the machine or if it's one that is self oiling,, if you have to oil it, oil only the places shown in the manual.

clean under the needle plate--for lint, it collect in the feed dog area, if a small brush came with the machine use it.

clean in the bobbin area also--for lint

also use a new needle-one for the fabric being sewed

Why is the hand wheel so tight? I can't sew with it.

Make sure thread or fabric isn't jamming the mechanism in the needle and bobbin area. If that's not the problem, the grease in the main bearings may have hardened with age. If so, it will require complete disassembly of the machine, removing the old grease (either, penetrating oil, etc), and relubricating the bearings.

My Janome 10000 has been sitting idle for about 6 months and I can hardly turn the hand wheel. Is there a place to oil or grease the machine to allow easier turning?

Remove the top cover (3 screws) and lubricate with good quality thin lubricant the top shaft running horizontally through the machine. This haft has 2 bushes and is a common source of seizing, especially at the handwheel end.
If this doesn't cure the problem have it serviced by a technician (there are numerous lube points inside the machine and these should be adressed every 12 - 24 months.

When sewing the back of the stick is all gathered / notted / bulk of thread and the thread sometimes gets court around the bobbin. Also the thread the goes through the tension before being threaded into...

It sounds as if either it is incorrectly threaded, the upper tension is too loose(try no 4)the needle is in the wrong way around(flat side to back if it opens at the front) or that the bobbin area is jammed. Check all of the above and tell me if it helps.

Bernina 930 where to put oil

There are two key points I suggest customers can do themselves to help lengthen the life of their machine. One is your hook and the other is the needle bar...
Hook - Open your bobbin door, removee the bobbin case/bobbin. On the upper left corner there is a small latch, push in the latch and your shuttle race ring will fall down forward. You can now remove your stainless steel hook. You need to keep this hook clean and the lip it fits back into clean and void of lint and debris. On the back of this hook or the "lip" that the hook fits back into apply a small amount of hook/sewing machine oil.
Needle Bar - Open up your head cover, the needle and needle bar clamp is attached to a long stainless steel rod that travels vertically inside your head. All sewing machines have a needle bar that looks like this. This bar travels thru two brackets attached to the frame of the machine. Rotate your handwheel and clean the needle bar well of debris. Rotate the handwheel so that the needlebar is in it's highest point and apply a small amount of oil to the upper and lower bracket of the frame, rotate the handwheel so the needlebar slides back down and therefore lubricating it and the inside of the brackets.
Hook oil or sewing machine oil is relatively inexpensive from all quilt, sewing machine, repair shops.

Be sure to take your machine in a minimum of every three years for proper cleaning and lubricating of all the other parts (This is of course for average home sewing machine use 8hours a week)

Janone 10000 stiff handwheel...

The belt material in the bottom of the machine is there because the belt is slipping and wearing away because of the 'stiffness' this "stiffness" is also causing the motor to strain. If you continue to use the machine in it's current state the motor WILL burn out.

Could be caused by one or two problems or both.

Lack of lubrication oil/grease on all bearings in particular the handwheel bearing, this will be the "tune up" your dealer did.

Other cause could be thread that has somehow got wrapped round the handwheel shaft.

Unless you know how to get into the top of the machine and lubricate it yourself then it is back to the dealer. Same access to the machine is needed to check for trapped thread.

If you do take it to the dealer make him/her show you how to lubricate the thing yourself.
Best of luck
Rob
