Kenmore 253.26072100. About a week ago it first started alarming with "b". changed battery and a couple times a day the alarm still sounds with "b". display was reading 6 until it alarms. Today control panel reads 12. Infrared thermometer reads 28 degrees on interior wall of freezer. Reviewed manuals but still at a loss for troubleshooting.

Our manual says it can take our freezer up to 48 hours to get back to the correct temperature. I found that to be the case when we loaded it fully for the first time.

When it is fixed and the temperature goes back down it will automatically go off.
If it's stuck trying unplugging for 10 minutes and then plug back in to reset. If it has a battery backup take out battery.
Inside the door near top there is sometimes instructions to hold the button for 3 seconds to reset or unlock controls (on modern Frigidaires and some Kenmores).

My wife solved it for me :-) You turn the alarm off with a switch at the bottom. The alarm turns off, but the light stays red for another 4 hours. After that the red light goes off too, and you can turn the switch back on without the alarm going off, if the freezer is back to operating temp.
