Dyson animal ball

Our Dyson animal ball has become very hard to push ahead ___at times___not always. The ball on one side is crooked and both sides make a grinding noise when you lay it on it's side and try to turn the ball. We sent it back to Dyson for repair and it was back to us the following day. Worked good for five minutes then right back to being very hard to move forward again. What do we do next to solve this problem?

You need to call Dyson. We had the same problem with 2 of them! When we installed new carpet, the newer machine was literally impossible to push. Long story short, they advised us to remove all of the gaskets on both heads. Their better now, but I question the quality of a product which has to have parts removed in order to function. Also, I suspect that those gaskets kept dust from being introduced into the interior of my home. I doubt that I'll ever own another when these 2 die. . .

SOURCE: Dyson noise.

Check all ports for a clog, there are removable covers you can take off, also check the hose for a clog. Make sure all filters are clean. Worse case is a problem with the motor.

SOURCE: Dyson Animal, lost suction and bypass valve seems to be loose

Dear terrygivens, 2-17-2009 4:12am EST (USA)

Most suction problems are caused by a clog from picking up something you probably didn't see or if you have pets an accumulation of pet hairs!

To clear it out take a metal coat hanger and unbend it til it's straight, then bend the end and tape it so when you push it through to unclog your vac it doesn't rip the hose.

Push the coat hanger in from the bottom brush area through the opening where the suction is. Also push it in and out anywhere else you can......You'll probably find something clogged....keep working it til it loosens and intermittently turn on the suction.

If you have a second vac with a hose, use that hose for suction on the clogged vac!

This should do it!

SOURCE: My Dyson Animal 14 beater brush will not turn.

It MAY be a clutch issue. I had a similar problem with my DC07 Animal recently a posted a solution elsewhere on this site, but here's the summary. To reset the clutch on my model, recline the vacuum, turn it on it's side and slowly change the carpet/bare floor knob from one setting to the other about 6 times. This apparently reset the clutch and now it works fine. You may also wish to call DYSON. They're very helpful and walk you through troubleshooting before recommending servicing. Their number is 1-866-693-9766. They'll need your model and serial number (located on bottom of uinit).

SOURCE: Dyson Animal Vac has become hard to push

Hi there, check that your brush bar is going round if you are having this problem on carpet. When the machine is stood upright, ensure the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when you release the head.

If this does not solve the problem call us on 1866MYDYSON as we may be able to run through some more checks to help you.

Kind regards
Darran

How do I remove the fixed half of the dyson ball? Not the filter side but the fixed side? I need to replace the small hose that transfers suction from the floor head to the hose.

Hi Chad, it's Jack at Dyson.

The non-filter side of the Ball shell isn't designed to be removed by the user. Ordinarily if the changeover valve hose was damaged we would arrange for this to be repaired by a qualified Dyson engineer. As long as the machine has been used and maintained according to the User guide, the repair may be covered under your Dyson guarantee. Please note, if your machine is within the Dyson guarantee period and you dismantle the vacuum any further than is shown in the User guide, you may void any remaining cover.

I would encourage you to contact the Dyson Customer Helpline directly to discuss your options for repair. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Dyson animal ball

Hi Max, I had a similar problem with mine a couple of years ago. I had just cleaned all of my filters on my Dyson, One of them being the one in the ball. Was almost impossible to roll across the floor, I messed with it for a couple of days, no solution. Called Dyson, the technician I talked to thought it might be the entire head causing problems, they sent a new head it was under warranty so no cost to me. Problem still existed. I took the ball apart and looked closely at it and it seems I had screwed it back together wrong after the filter cleaning. Long story short, check to see if the ball is put together correctly. Hope this solves your problem
