No black ink after print head cleaning

Started with broken lines then diminished to zero black ink after doing a "deep clean". Tried another print head and it did the same. Also reset the waste tank but no change.

SOURCE: Faulty Ink Cartridge?

You can try this, but maybe a new print head is needed.
OK, Canon will hate me for posting this.

1. Remove ink cartridges
2. Remove print head
3. go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head, be careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.

SOURCE: Print head remains clogged canon pixma iP 4000

I have successfully managed to clean the print head with isopropyl alcohol by placing a flexible plastic tube over the cartridge seat, filling the tube partially with the alcohol, then blowing very hard through the tube. The alcohol does not appear to harm anything.

To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. # Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right). # Continue doing this until it looks clean. # Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing. # Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier. 2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

When printing text in black ink, some lines of the text are missing. I've tried doing a deep cleaning 4 times and replaced the black ink cartridge. Have also tried unplugging unit, but that didnt help...

You didn't mention what printer was doing this. HP, Lexmark, Epson? It sounds like your print head is clogged with dried ink. If you can remove print head you can sit it on a damp cloth with the nozzle of the print head in contact with the damp cloth and hope that the cloth will draw out the dried ink.

My MP530 willnot print black printed text. How do I now if the ink head is plugged and what do I do about it?

Hi ...

I would suggest you try and clean the print head and that should resolve the problem. Follow the below steps to clean the print head:

Perform a Cleaning of the print head:
Caution: Cleaning consumes a certain amount of ink. Perform Cleaning only when necessary.
Note: The pattern varies depending on the printer and version of Windows being used.
  1. Click 'Cleaning' to perform print head cleaning from the Pattern Check window and proceed to step 3 of the print head cleaning instructions. If the Pattern Check window is closed, skip this step and proceed to step 2.

    mp_500_win_nozzle_check_abnormal_cleaning.jpg

  2. To perform a print head cleaning from the Maintenance window, click 'Cleaning'.

    mp_500_win_maint_phc.jpg

  3. When the Print Head Cleaning window is displayed, select the target ink group for 'Cleaning'.

Note: When performing Cleaning for Black only, deselect 'All Colors' and check 'Black'.

Note: When performing Cleaning for Color only, deselect 'All Colors', and check 'Color'.

    mp_500_ph_cleaning_color_only.jpg

  4. After selecting the target ink group click 'Execute' to perform the cleaning of the print head nozzles.

    mp_500_ph_cleaning_execute.jpg

  5. When the confirming message is displayed, check the contents, and click 'OK'.

Caution: Although the Nozzle Check window is displayed, do not perform any other operations until Cleaning is completed.. Cleaning will take about 40 seconds.

  6. Print a Nozzle Check Pattern and examine.

  7. Perform Cleaning again if necessary.

Memo: If the pattern is still abnormal after two Cleanings, perform up to two Deep Cleanings.

Perform Deep Cleaning of the print head
Caution: Deep Cleaning consumes a larger amount of ink than normal Cleaning. Perform Deep Cleanings only when necessary.
  1. In the Maintenance window, click 'Deep Cleaning'.

    mp_500_win_maint_dphc.jpg

Note: The layout varies depending on the printer and version of Windows you are using.

  2. When the Deep Cleaning window is displayed, select the target ink group for Deep Cleaning.

    mp_500_dph_cleaning_targets.jpg

Note: When performing Cleaning for all colors, check 'All Colors'.

    mp_500_dph_cleaning_color_only.jpg

  3. Click 'Execute'.

    mp_500_dph_cleaning_execute.jpg

Memo: By clicking 'Initial Check Items' before clicking 'Print Check Pattern', you can see the specific confirmation items in Nozzle Check.

  4. When the confirming message is displayed, click 'OK'. (The Power lamp will blink green and Deep Cleaning starts. The blink stops when Deep Cleaning is over.)

  5. When Deep Cleaning starts, check the contents, and click 'OK'.

Caution: To prevent interruption of the Deep Cleaning process, do not perform any other operations until Deep Cleaning is completed. When the operation of the printer is stopped, Deep Cleaning is completed. Deep Cleaning will take about 75 seconds.

  6. Print Nozzle Check again.

Note: If the printed pattern is still not normal, perform steps 1 through 4 of the Deep Cleaning process one additional time.

Caution: If after two Deep Cleanings the Nozzle Check Pattern is still not normal, turn the printer off and let it sit for 24 hours or more before attempting another Deep Cleaning again. The wait time may allow dried ink in clogged print head nozzles to liquefy, and resolve the problem
If this does not resolve the problem, please reply back and we'll try the next step ...

Don't forget to vote if this helps ... Cheers :)

Cleaning your head might resolve your problem. Perform the below steps to clean the head:

Print Head Cleaning / Head Refreshing If the printed nozzle check pattern is broken, missing, or a specific color is not printed, clean the print head (Cleaning) or print head deep cleaning (Deep Cleaning). Note:
  1. Cleaning the print head consumes a small amount of ink. Cleaning too often reduces the amount of ink in the ink tanks.

  2. Print head cleaning is performed when you connect the power cord. Your machine may perform print head cleaning periodically to avoid clogging.
Overview:
Step1:
Print the Nozzle Check Pattern.
To check whether the print head nozzles are clogged, print the Nozzle Check Pattern.

Step 2:
Perform print head cleaning.
This unclogs the print head nozzles

#5 black ink cartridge skips through the middle occasionally

Replacing the print head
The print head may need replacing if, after all print head and ink tank troubleshooting has been performed:

  • The nozzle test appears broken or to have horizontal white streaks.
  • One or more of the colors is missing from the Nozzle Test.
  • The colors are incorrect on the Nozzle Test.
  • A print head error is indicated on the unit.
  • The printer powers off when the print head is installed.
I hope it helps!!!

Printer will not print black ink

Hi please try these steps:::

Right-click the printer icon, and then select 'Properties'.
2. Click the 'Maintenance' tab, and then click 'Deep Cleaning'.

maintdeep.jpg

3. Select 'All Colors', 'Black' or 'Color' for the print head to be cleaned.

allcolorsorblack.jpg

4. Read the message displayed, and then click 'OK'. The power lamp blinks and print head deep cleaning starts. (Do not perform any other operations until print head deep cleaning is complete. Print head deep cleaning takes about 1 minute.)

IF ABOVE STEPS DOESN'T WORK TRY THESE STEPS BELOW

Check ink tank vent hole The ink tank requires air to flow through it so ink can move from the reservoir to the print heads.

  1. Confirm there is no orange tape across the top of the ink tank

  2. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (1), it is properly removed.

    ink_tank_tape.jpg

    *BCI-3's shown in this example.

  3. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (2), remove the remaining tape to the level shown in Figure (1).

  4. Make sure each ink tank is snapped into the printer.

IF THESE STEPS DIDNOT WORK THEN YOUR PRINTER NEEDS REPAIR(You might need to change the printer head.)

3e Black cartridge won't print

I'm not an expert but I go through a lot of ink.. I have found that even with new ink some of the tanks of ink aren't any good especially with compatible which i buy a lot of because it's a lot cheaper (ebay). With that ink I have gone through 10 cartridges in a row before finding one that worked correctly again (I mean out of 100+ cartridges hitting a run of 10 that where bad but the rest good.)

Also, a tech for epson once told me to hit deep clean 7 times in a row before a head check to clean their nozzles.. That has helped with my printer and at Fry's electronics, they have a cleaning solvent in kit, haven't tried it, but i have run alcohol through mine but I'm told that is very ******* the print head (dissolves the glue).

Hope that helped..
