Why a low remain record time on zoom h1 handy recorder when .wav setting in use?

I erased all recordings, but when set to the .wav setting, the remain record time is extremely low (8 min). Any idea on fix?

When you record in .wav format, the files ARE better quality, however, they are ALOT larger than a standard .mp3...if you can't tell the 'loss in quality', i would suggest to keep recording as .mp3...but if a .wav is preferred, then i would suggest upgrading the SD card. ..hope this helps.

If you are using a Mac running Leopard (Sys 10.5), you need to upgrade the H4  firmware from Zoom website
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php

You will need an external SD card reader.

http://www.zoom.co.jp/archive/English_Manual/E_MRS1044v2.pdf If this is the model you have you have to format the hard disk before using it the first time. You may also have to restore the machine to factory settings using the recovery disk that came with it. The link is to the download for the manual.

If you can reformat the drive after dumping out anything you want saved MIGHT fix the problem...

The unit MAY not be able to tolerate fragmenting when you delete a snippet here and there... It may require large blocks of contiguous space.

It may not be a problem. See if you can perform a facrory reset and start again.

open up the battery door. Make sure that the switch it is not set to "stamina mode". This disables many main menu options

I have a zoom h4n. I can't get anything but low record levels. I have tried manual and automatic level control. The manual says I should select auto rec and then select start lvl, but when I select auto...

I use an earlier model but try:

Press the "red" light on the correct channel you are using for input. that will bring up the dialog to set input level. the +/- level set is on the same side of the device as the menu wheel.
You need to be in 4CH mode for the external lights to be on

Hello, i am having noise problems when i recording with my zoom h4 in mp3 format, the funny thing is that every thing is ok when i record in wav format, do you have any idea about what could be the...

MP3 is a compressed format so there MAY be some SLIGHT distortion in MP3. It should not be a significant level however. I would contact Zoom and get support from them regarding this problem.
