Could be the voltage regulator. Diodes can fail. Maybe the generator itself too, but more likely to be a bad connection to the rotor from regulator or the reg. itself.

SOURCE: do you excite generator while it is running ?

Yes! The generater must be running. Only apply voltage for one or two seconds when exciting then check for ac voltage with a meter. You can try again if no voltage. Note: if exciting the field does not work your problem may be something else.

Generac Guardian 15kw pn 43903 sn 4067938. Battery not charging. How do I get to the voltage regulator?

I believe the charging circuit is part of the main controller board. The board controls the relay that cnnnect the battery to supply power for start and for charging. Check to see if the relay is good.

Generac Guardian Standby Generator 04760 15KW LP won't stay running

Turns out it was the Manual-off-Auto switch that was bad. My DVM showed a voltage drop across the switch. The controller wasn't getting enough power.

One good thing about it was it forced me to really study the schematics to understand how everything worked. I'm now in the process of designing my own esp32 based controller, with wifi connectivity, to replace the stock control board.

Generator was running and quit delivering voltage while running. Turned it off and then restarted and checked voltage with no load. no voltage...no smell...plenty of oil...seems like a breaker8000 exl...#...

It very well may have been a breaker that opened up permanently.

But, I bet that the generator was under heavy load for prolonged time, and one / both of the diodes in voltage regulator have opened up. You will have to disassemble the end housing of the alternator to get to these, and then test with multimeter to know for sure.

Of course, your generator may have an electronic controller, and not use diodes / capacitor at all. Since don't have model #, can't be sure.

If engine has dropped much under 1800 (4 pole alternator) or 3600 (2 pole alternator) RPMs, then alternator output would tank or be nonexistent.

Generac EPS-15 attempts to engage the starter while running

I work on these everyday. You most likely have a bad rotor or stater if the starter engages while running and no output. The no out put is making the generator think its not running causing it to try and start. If its not that then its the control board or voltage regulator.

No voltage output

It is possible that your voltage regulator is shot but before purchasing the volt regulator try flashing the fields first and make sure the brushes and rings are clean.
