Sloppy steering 96 Ford Bronco

I dont know what I need to replace, My steering is very sloppy, and I want to tighten it up. I have to continuously move the steering wheel left and right 4-5 inches just to keep it between the lines. Way to much play, what is worn out, and how hard to replace. I dont care about the cost, I want to fix it right. I am restoring it. Any help would be much appreciated

You need to check all of you front steering components have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth. While you lay on the ground check all joints and components for play then check your steering shaft under the hood see how far steering wheel moves to each directions to when your tires start to move your gearbox has an adjustment on it that can be adjusted it looks like a screw with a nut at the bottom loosen nut a few turns and hold it with a wrench then take screwdriver and turn screw about 1/4 keep checking wheel for play you can tighten to much so keep checking that wheel turns back when you let go if you have any loose joints undernieth replace that part

Do not touch the steering gear box. If you must, just replace it, it's around a $100. Once you start adjusting that screw on it, you will never get it working right, and you will put yourself in danger by having your steering column lock up.

Most parts are fairly cheap, get someone to turn the steering wheel back and forth really fast and see what's loose, then replace those parts.

How do I remove the steering wheel on a 1995 Oldsmobile cutlass ciera sl 3.1l to tighten the steering column

You don't need to.There isn't any thing behind the wheel that you can tighten. A sloppy steering column has to be removed to replace any parts making it sloppy. You best bet is to call around local junk yards or maybe Ebay and find a replacement column. Your not going to find the parts you need to fix it.

How do you tighten gear lever on cortina 1600e thanks

Inspect Linkage between shifter and transmission. Determine where the sloppy looseness is. Replace sloppy linkage parts if transmission lever is not loose. Pray you don't need to have shifter leverage (inside transmission) repaired.

1996 bronco steering jerks to the left and feels sloppy.

Jack up the vehicle, support it properly (not to fall), grab the wheel on top and bottom and check for play on both sides. Most likely bad ball joint but could be loose wheel bearing also. Do both sides on whatever part is defective as the otherside will not be far behind as having the same thing happen.

Steering is very sloppy on my Saturn sl1

sounds like an internal problem in the steering rack, the front end will feel tight on inspection but there will be a lot of play in the steering.

1984 ckevy k20 sloppy / loose steering

sounds like the only thing not checked was the idler arm. Also, have ball joints double checked by a different shop. I had similar issue with 96 Yukon and found ball joints bad on my own. Shop misdiagnosed!

My steering is really sloppy, how do I tighten it up? 1985 olds delta 88.

Check the center link on the steering assembly which the left and right inner tie rods attach to
It may need a replacement. Check all other steering related items as well for wear and looseness

'89 chevy k1500 sloppy steering wheel (HELP PLEASE)

Everyone always gravitates to the suspension but folks, it's 99% sure that it is the EVO. The EVO is the sensor built into the steering column that senses movement of the steering wheel then controls the power steering pump accordingly. When it goes out (which is all too frequently) you get sloppy and loose steering at lower speeds and it does tighten up a bit on the highway at higher speeds. This is the way it is supposed to work but when it fails it's downright scary trying to keep the truck straight on a narrow two lane road!
