SOURCE: Removing the front plate on a Whirlpool WED7800XW

After you get to the element, you may want to troubleshoot other components. Common problems are failure of the thermal limiter on the element housing and poor ventilation. If the dryer is producing any heat at all, don't disassemble the dryer, you have a ventilation issue.

Unplug the dryer.

You need a 1" putty knife to get the top up. At the front left and right corners under the top panel there is a spring clip. It may be helpful to look with a flashlight first because there is an alignment pin that sits right beside them. They can be stubborn so you may need to hit the back of the putty knife to get them loose. Apply upward pressure on the top panel as you disengage the spring clips. You will also need to remove the screws that secure the front panel to the lint screen housing (2 or 4 philips screws).

Once you get both sides released, open the door 90 degrees and the top panel will lift up on a rear hinge. With the top up you can access two 5/16" hex screws that secure the front panel to the bulkhead. Remove these and the front panel should lean forward. Remove front panel.

Remove the 5/16" hex screws that secure the lower lint screen duct to the blower housing and front bulkhead and remove duct. Disconnect wiring harness for the moisture sensor at the bottom right of bulkhead. There will be 4 screws holding the bulkhead to the rest of the cabinet. Remove these and lift off front bulkhead assembly. Two rollers on the back will want to hang on to the drum but gently turning the bulkhead should release without much trouble.

Remove the belt by releasing tension on the idler pulley and, using the belt as a handle at the top, remove the belt and drum together. The element is on the right, and you will need to remove the wires from the thermal limiter at the back, hi limit thermostat in the middle, and element at the front.

To remove the element, there are two 1/4" screws at the front that are tough to get to because you don't have much clearance, but they support the front of the element housing. There is one screw at the rear. Remove the element and then the hi limit and thermal limiter screws.

F02 error on whirlpool front load washer. How do you open the kick panel?

Depending upon what model you have, most kick plates are removed by taking the 3 or 4 (1/4 inch or torque) screws out located underneath the kick plate. Note that not all front load washers have a kick plate so be sure that there is a prominent gap between the upper most region and the small lower region being the kick plate.

Here are the steps.Hope this helps.

Our maytag mhwe300vw00 washer shows an error of F21, which states that it can't drain. I checked the drain hose and outlet pipe, though, and they are not blocked. We followed the manual to reset it, but...

You need to take off the bottom kick plate by removing three screws. Behind the plate you will see a filter on the bottom right. Open this filter and remove any blockage you may find.

Do I need to clean the filter behind the lower front panel? I removed the panel but nothing in the owners manual that describes it. I heard that you need to do this every year or so for general...

Remove the lower kick plate. Unscrew the two screws holding the kick plate in place, and gently pull off to remove. The kick plate is the lower outside cover of the washing machine.

Place a small bucket under the white hose. Remove the cap on the white hose by untwisting it. Allow any remaining water in the hose to drain into the small bucket. There shouldn't be much water, but there can be some.

Look inside the white hose. Remove any visible obstructions or lint.

Look inside the hose cap. This is where the lint filter is. Remove any visible lint with your fingers. Rinse the hose cap under warm water to remove any remaining lint.

Twist the cap back onto the white hose. Put the kick plate back in place. Screw back on.

I am replacing the water inlet valve. How do you open the top the machine?

There is no way to open the "top" of the machine, only the rear panel, lower "kick" panel or back plate (behind the timer mechanism). These water inlet valve can be accessed by moving the appliance away from the wall, removing a dozen screws and lifting out from the tabs. Most washers are repaired from below or the back, almost never the top or front. There is a chassis for the motor, but only the backs of the upper and lower areas are removeable without complete disassembly. Don't attempt to disassemble the entire thing--EVER! When in doubt, look for an online schematic, usually provided (as a PDF) by most manufacturers online. Exploded views as well.
