It doesn't make sense when the laptop is pluged into the ac adapter the screen goes dim... If I UNPLUG it from the ac adapter it goes bright again.

This happened once before after we had a power serge I don't remember how I corrected it..... Before I went to work it was fine, when I came home, we had a power serge during the day, I turned on the computer and it was dim while it was pluged into the AC adapter and bright when unpluged........

I took the battery out and the screen went bright again....... Yeah.... Thank you..........

Why when it's on battery power it's bright and when it's on AC power direct without the battery it's bright but when the battery is connected and the AC is plugged in it went dim..... Could something have happened from the power surge?

    Is my battery still good?

    Thank you for your help.........

Plug your ac adaptor in only without the battery and if the screen is still dim then go ahead and hold down the FN key and then as your holding down that key look for the key that has a picture of a light there will be two of them, one to make the screen brighter and another to make the screen dimmer. Try one of them and see if the screen becomes brighter and if it does, try the other key and see if it becomes dimmer. This will let you know that the brightness control is working thru the keyboard.

explain further, normally when a laptop is connected to a ac adaptor the screen is brighter. When its only connected to a battery the screen is dim unless you manually up the brightness on it.

Right click on the battery icon in the taskbar, go to Power Options or something similiar. Change the plan settings for the power plan you're currently in. Check the brightness ratio for both battery and plugged in mode. This problem might come if you or someone had tinkered with the settings.

Then try Battery Check to determine the battery status. This could be found in the help. Hit F1 in the desktop, go to Power and Battery and then click on Battery Check. Connect your laptop to the AC power while performing the test.

HP Compaq Presario R4000 (PN495AV) PC Notebook How

Yes, go to Start>Control panel>Power Options. There also should be a screen brightness key on your key board, that looks like a sun shining, with arrows pointing up & down. To use that key, hit the FN key, right next to the Ctrl key. Push & hold the FN key, while pushing the up arrow. That should increase the brightness of your display. Good luck.

WHEN I DISCONNECT FROM POWER AND GO ONTO BATTERY, MY SCREEN GOES DIM TO WHERE I CAN NOT SEE IT CLEARLY

Hi

Thank you for your query
As you can appreicate the your screen needs alot of power so when plugged in there is a continuous source of power so its very bright, however as your battery has only a limited charge, the screen will go dark to conserve

There are 2 ways of changing this

1) Press the fn key + the key with a sun symbol on there this is usually the up arrow key or the right arrow key, but will will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, to increase the brightness

2) Click Start> Control Panel>Power options
Inside here you will be able to set what type of power profile you want running on Plug and battery, and will be able to change the brightness

My Garmin nuvi 1300 brightness problems

I spoke to Garmin Support about this issue. There are 2 settings for contrast on the nuvi 1300. You need to set the contrast while it is plugged into the vehicle, and also while it is unplugged from the vehicle. The reason for the 2 settings is to save the charge of the battery while it is not plugged into the vehicle or power source.

My HP Pavilion dv5000;s monitor is blinking!

This is a possible problem with the inverter that powers the back lighting panel or it could be the power adapter connector on the latop.
Wriggle the power connector which plugs into the laptop, if the LCD screen flickers then the power connector is faulty or needs resolderng (repairing).

Display brightness

Ok on your keyboard there should be some way to adjust the brightness just plug in the laptop and adjust it to what you want then unplug the laptop and adjust it to what you want and it should keep that setting. if that does not work you can check the bios settings some laptop bios' have a brightness option.

Acer 4520 light going dim

Normally the way it works is if you plug in your AC Adapter to a laptop the computer screen will Brighten up since its no longer running off of battery and is actually charging . The reason why it should go dim is when you unplug the Ac adapter it goes dim to save battery life and last longer. If you are getting a really dim you can check and make sure that the Ac adapter jack on the adapter or motherboard isnt loose and it could be having contact to the unit and be loose inside and every small movement causes it not to charge / charge in and out and would cause this Dim effect. Again this depends on how old the computer is and I dont really think its the LCD or backlight going bad but you can try to mess with the screen brightness and If im not mistaken on that model it should be the FN key and the Right > and Left < Key for lower and higher brightness. Give that a try and check the adapter connection and you can pin point the issue . Hopefully it doesnt come worst to worst which could be a bad LCD going bad or damaged lcd internal cable. Hope my answer helped guide you closer to a solution.
