We have a GE Profile, smooth top stove. Normally when you turn on a burner, it heats up for a minuteg, switches off, and then back on and off again throughtout the cook time. Just recently our big burner (front right) no longer does that. You turn it on, and it stays on. So basically no matter what setting you have it on: high, med, or low it just stays on and cooks everything at High. Since it is only that burner, could it be a switch problem? And if so, is that an easy repair? Thanks, pt

Faulty switch if you are changing it yourself remember turn off power and take your time, take a photo to compare so you get it right.
Good luck. Ray

SOURCE: GE profile performance electric cook

Confirm there is 240 VAC powering the unit (make sure a breaker has not tripped or a fuse blown.).

Did the burners ever produce enough heat?

If yes, then we can look deeper. If no, then the burners may not be adequate for your cooking style. Burners are like light bulbs. A 60 watt bulb will put out more light than a 40 watt bulb. A 100 watt bulb will put out more light than a 60.
Typically, a small burner will provide less cooking heat than a large burner.

SOURCE: Burner only cooks on high heat.

You need the switch for that burner. The contacts inside are stuck together. You will need to pull the unit and separate the glass from the lower body to access it. To get the right switch you need full model and serial number located on a plate at the bottom of the unit.

Your ability to perform this is dependent on how mechanical you are. The Whole unit must be removed from the counter opening and the base unscrewed from the glass, remove knobs before disassembling. For someone mechanical this is not difficult. De-energize whole unit first.

Once the two pieces are separated the remainder is mechanically easier. Disassemble the box on right containing the switches and replace the correct one. Reverse the process for reassembly. Good Luck

I double check all ignitors are cleaned. What else should I check or should I just give up????

On our glass top GE Profile stove, the burners do not stay on - they keep turning off and then on again before coming to full temp. Extra long time, for example, for water to boil.

They cycle off once they have reached the temp that you set, then come back on to keep that temp, my suggestion is increase the set temp.

GE Profile mod. PP975bM3BB all lights work Burner will not heat

You have lost half of the circuit in the breaker, the lights work on one side of it but the burners need both sides of a 220 volt circuit. I would have the breaker tested first, and if it is good, look for a fuse, relay, breaker in the back of the stove. Hope this helps.

GE Profile igniter sparking continuously after water spill

The continuous sparking stopped after few hours. Looks like the water dry up and that fixed the issue.

G.E Profile gas cook top #JGP640 ignitor.

It is sparking because the module does not sense the heat which would normally cause the sparking to stop.

It can be caused by a poor ground, make sure the ignitor at that burner is clean and free from any obstructions. If it is then it could either be a defective ignitor or spark module.

I did not receive instructions with my G E Profile cook top Model No. 80030750434). There is a build up on the elements which I am having problems removing. Should the top be scraped while the stove is hot or cold? What is the best cleaning product to use?
