When i put in a dvd and play, there is only the backround sounds. when i press the "sound" or "audio" buttons the screen box says "bypass" and i cannot get it to change to 3-d, pro logic, movie, or anything. just bypass. the sounds works perfect on regular tv, cds, game ps2, but not on dvds.

Bypass code for the dual 8181 cd player

For the Anti-Theft Passcode if you forgot yours - Turn to player on. Make sure the screen is out. Press and HOLD the MUTE button. While holding the MUTE button, press and HOLD the POWER button. (Should be holding them both down at this time.) After about 12 seconds a new passcode screen should come up. Release the MUTE and POWER buttons. Type in 122164. Press OK. Your passcode is now reset to 0000.

For The E Brake Passcode - Put in a DVD. Wait until you hear the sounds of the DVD. Press STOP twice on your remote. Press 22604 on the remote. Press OK/ENTER on the remote.

Sound

To everyone having sound trouble... there is a solution! First make sure your TV is OFF. Unplugg the 2 main cables going into the DVT 412 for 30 seconds. Then re-plugg them. Press down for a few seconds on all the BLACK tabs connecting the sound wires and release. Without a disc in the player... and the TV still OFF, turn the power on and immediatley hold the down the STOP button on the DVT412 for 5-10 seconds. Your picture, vocal and backround sound will return to normal. Feel free to make changes to the sound now! Happy tuning... GO STEELERS! LOL!

I can hear cds and see video on my hp dvd 1040i multiformat dvd writer but I can not hear audio to the movie/dvds i have rented.

Sounds like you might have a setting that is incorrect for DVDs in the setup menu.

Grab your DVD player remote and press the SETUP button. Navigate to the audio menu. Make sure Spdif is turned off (unless you're using an optical cable for your sound), that the audio stream is set to PCM (standard for CDs) or RAW, and turn off any Dolby/Digital Dolby/Surround Sound/etc. Now play a disc.

There's also another way if your remote has an AUDIO button. While the DVD is playing, press the AUDIO button and you should see a small windo that pops up that will tell you what the audio is set to. Press the button and wait a couple of seconds between presses to see if the audio starts playing.

How do i bypass the parking brake switch in order for my video to play

1. FACTORY RESET METHOD (Temporary)
(This isn't the most effective, but it is the easiest to try, so it's worth a shot since it apparently works on some units.)
** Go to the Menu
** Get to the Settings Menu
** Select <yes> to Reset to Factory Settings.

HDMI sound?

I had the same problem with my PS3. I have a HD cable box with HDMI out, a Sony DVD player with HDMI out. The Sony receiver STR-DG800 only has the HDMI inputs (sat/tv and dvd) and the HDMI is only a pass through port and will not decode audio.
I purchase a HDMI 4 port switch from Newegg (HS-41A0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812168003&Tpk=HS-41A0) to hook up the DVD and PS3 to the DVD HDMI and switch between the DVD player and the PS3. It took me several days to figure out how to make this work with the settings on the reciver.

1 the DVD player must use the coaxial in jack for sound on the receiver.
2. the PS3 must use the optical connection on video1
3. the sound settings in the PS3 must be set to PCM
4. set the sound setting on the receiver to the following

a. on the remote press AMP button then the MENU button, next press the down arrow to you see 5- AUDIO SET - then press enter.
b.set sound decode priorty to PCM
c. next scroll down to you see digital assign - press enter
assign VID1 OPTICAL to DVD ( this allows the pcm output from the PS3 to play through the receiver), next assign DVD to COAXIAL setting DVD to DVD (this allows the digital sound to play from your DVD player).

So when you use your remote and select DVD, you can use your PS3 or DVD through the 1 DVD HDMI port.

The blue warning screen should immediately go away after pressing the last digit of "26604." Still press ENTER as a precaution.
