Adding voicemail to an existing extension

I have lost the admin manual and need to add a voicemail mailbox to an existing extension.
I have figured out that I need to 'forward' calls depending on busy or no answer to the voicemail extension (in my case ext 251).
I then dial the extension, get through to voicemail but cannot retrieve it.
'Feature 981' asks for a mailbox number, and the extention/password combo doesn't work.
I am convinced that I have missed a step in the set up - can you help?

If the voicemail already has a mailbox for 139 you just might have to change the greeting. If it has to be set up or if there is a password, you have to go into admin mailbox 999 (which might have a password) to delete password first, then go into mb139 and set up a greeting. Would need to know the model # of vm

Toshiba Strata DK16 e & DKT2020-SD

You did not say what kind of voicemail you have but since you have a DK16e I'll assume it is a Stratagy. The Company Greeting is usually split between mailboxes 990 and 991. MB 990 is the introduction ( Thank you for calling ABC Company) and MB 991 are the instructions ( If you know your parties extension please enter it now .... ). The Admin mailbox to set this up is 999 if you have three digit extension numbers and the default password is 999997#. If this password has been changed then you will have to get a local Toshiba dealer to help you as the password will have to be reset via a computer connected to the maintenance port of the voicemail. If you have a computer already set up to program the voicemail then that is where you will also take care of the Directory issues. If you go to www.wedophones.com and click on manuals, scroll down to Toshiba, click on Toshiba, then scroll down until you see Stratagy Voicemail you will find your Admin Guide, Good Luck and let me know how you make out or if I can help ......mitelmike
