My dirt devil has 3 screws underneath- these are the same ones you use to change the belt--sounds like something is caught in roller-- mone was full of hair!

Check the brush roll, are the bristles worn down? Check the belt also, if it is stretched, then it won't drive the brush roll like it should.

make sure your brush roller is turning.unplug the vacuum and see if you can turn the brush roller by hand.if it turns real freely then your belt is more than likely broke

Roller brush pin spins off center

If you are describing the problem accurately, you need a new brush and new bearings (bushings). Once they get worn to egg shape, no matter how slight, the problem will only get worse.

How do you change the belt

on the bottom of the vacume you should see about 4 screws ( philips ) that hold the plate in place, remove the screws and plate and this will expose the motor shaft, belt and roller ( you should also see the broken belt there two ) -- pop out the roller ( pull straight up ). put new belt onto the motorspindle and then onto the roller, snap roller back into place ( note: on the edges of the roller it is somewhat keyed to only fit into the vacume a certain way ), replace the the plate and screws and you are good to go. also while you are getting dirty -- clean the air filter and examine the hose between the floor roller and the suction hose for dirt build up and debris.

The vaccum doesn't pick up dirt, it sprays out

There is probably a second or third filter (besides the canister) that needs to be cleaned.
I doubt that it's rotating the wrong direction.

DIRT DEVIL VISION BAGLESS UPRIGHT

Check further down, by the brush roll, the inlet may be clogged, or something like a nail or pin wedged sideways in the hose, and catches debris and clogs up. This has a one year warranty, if you still can't firgure it out, take it to a warranty shop and take proof of purchase with you.
