If it is completely clean, no strain on the motor, no clog, check the fan on the motor - Intact? ... or is the center pulled out of the fan?

Hi, no im afraid its not that easy, the problem is with the wire that goes into the vac from the mains, now you see where the mains lead goes through in the back of the vac well what happens is when you vacing and moving the vac around this part wears and causes a short or loss of connection, now it usually happens when your using it then the free cable runs out and it pulls on the vac when you try goign further than the wire reaches, so the problem you are having is with the connection between the wire and the on/off switch, this is a very common fault with all vacs of this type.
to fix it your going to need to remove the cylinder and see if their is an access panel on the front of the vac behind the cylinder you take off to empty.
how ever if you have no electrical skills then its not safe for me to tell you how to do this repair, if you get it wrong you could do harm to anyone who uses the vac ok so be warned i have told you this ok.
the work involves removing the panel the other side of the switch then you need to undo the wires going to the switch you then need to pull the mains wire out of the vac so its no longer connected then cut it back 3 or 4 inches so as the part that is faulty has gone then you need to fit it all back together the right way round and make sure their is no bare wire showing and that it is all secure and then it should work.
but before you do all that check the fuse in the plug first as if its got hot this fuse may have blown so i would check that first before you decide what to do next ok.
it wont cost much to pay someone to do this as it wont require any parts, if you could take it to a reapir shop yourself then that will be even cheaper as you wont be paying a call out fee, also check if you have any warranty left on it as this fault wil be covered
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
please can you rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks
When I vacuum the floor
blockage in the hose sounds like the culprit remove the hose and inspect, push a broom stick through it while off and push a open coat hanger through the canal where the hose connects, if not the filter must be blocked
How do you change the belt
on the bottom of the vacume you should see about 4 screws ( philips ) that hold the plate in place, remove the screws and plate and this will expose the motor shaft, belt and roller ( you should also see the broken belt there two ) -- pop out the roller ( pull straight up ). put new belt onto the motorspindle and then onto the roller, snap roller back into place ( note: on the edges of the roller it is somewhat keyed to only fit into the vacume a certain way ), replace the the plate and screws and you are good to go. also while you are getting dirty -- clean the air filter and examine the hose between the floor roller and the suction hose for dirt build up and debris.

Vacuum will not rurn on
Most likely the power switch is bad or the wire near the plug is broken. Sounds like a job for a repairman or just take the switch out of line all together and just plug it in to turn it on yourself, or lastly just break down and get a new vaccuum..
