Sounds as though the hand wheel at the right end of the machine needs tightening by hand to engage inner workings. Hold the larger wheel with one hand tighten the smaller wheel.

SOURCE: Bobbin winding message

Under the top cover, on the right hand side where the bobbin winder is, there is a small switch which is activated when the bobbin is being wound. You will need to remove the cover and reposition the switch (it's located towards the front of the machine) to make it work properly.

SOURCE: needle wont go up and down.

well,it seem that your upper camshaft was stuck due to several factor on mechanical linkages and maybe on gears. You have to isolate the checking since you have clean lower bobbins free from dirt and thread/fabrics chips. If there an opening on top of machine open it to check some mechanical destorsion or breakage.Check some broken gears inside. If nothing try to open also at the bottom of machine cover and there are also belt and gears connected to the motors and bobbins shuttle holder if so oil all shafting oil port, oil port bushing specially on bushing near hand wheel there is port for oil,
check also motor assembly of machine, you can disconnect belt from motor release the bolt holding motor adjust to lower tension belt and release the belt.Take some tools such as monkey pliers or small pipe wrench that can hold hand wheel just crack in order to move suddenly after oiling for several hours sometime bushing and shafting rushes emerged or if you have anti rush spray put in on.After cracking and you can move a little crack only by your hand several time lleft and right until all linkages free from rush.If you can move all parts and hand wheel rotate freely.Check also motor by rotating the small pulley conncted to motor if free to move.if ok put back and reassembly all parts disconnected.try to move again by hand if free to move after all asssembly.Run machine using foot pedal.

Singer Quilter Confidence - needle moves when winding bobbin

If the needle on your Singer Quilter Confidence machine moves when you're winding the bobbin, it's likely due to a few possible reasons. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:
  1. Check the threading: Make sure the thread is properly threaded through the machine, as an incorrect threading can cause the needle to move during bobbin winding.
  2. Tighten the needle clamp screw: If the needle clamp screw is loose, it can cause the needle to vibrate during bobbin winding. To tighten the screw, use a screwdriver to turn the screw clockwise.
  3. Check the bobbin winder tension: If the bobbin winder tension is too loose, it can cause the needle to move. To adjust the tension, refer to the manual for your Singer Quilter Confidence machine.
  4. Check for any obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions near the needle, such as thread tails, fabric, or lint, as these can cause the needle to move during bobbin winding.
If you've tried all of these steps and the needle continues to move during bobbin winding, it may be a mechanical issue that requires a professional to fix. I would recommend contacting Singer for further assistance.

My Elna 62C doesn't run. The light works but nothing happens when I press the pedal. Does that mean the motor is bad? Or is it electrical?

There is insufficient information. Does the needle move when you turn the hand wheel. If it doesn't, the fly wheel has been disengaged. (This lets you wind a bobbin. However, if the bobbin winder pin has been returned to the left position, the winder isn't engaged.) This is controlled by the knob in the center of the hand wheel. Hold the hand wheel with one hand and turn the knob towards the back of the sewing machine.

If the fly wheel is engaged, then the problem could be the motor or the pedal rheostat. You might try to find a new compatible foot control first, https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/elna-star-62-sewing-machine-parts.aspx?index=1 . The motor is no longer available.

I hope this helps.

How do I fix my bobbin winder?

1. Take the top off.
2. Check to see if the bobbin winder has pressure as you move it back and forth. There should be. If not then check for a spring connected to the bobbin and reset it. There will be some kind of post to hook it to.
3. Place the bobbin winder in the "off" position and put the top lid back on.
4. Without putting the screws back in move the bobbin winder to the "on" position and to the "off" position.
5. There should be pressure either way you move the winder.
6. Loosen the hand wheel handle.
7 With the bobbin winder in the "go" position use your foot pedal to make sure it revolves.
8. Replace the top.

Why won't my old manual singer sewing machine needle move?

1. Disengage the bobbin winder. That is done by moving the arm away from the center wheel. 2. Tighten the hand wheel. When you tighten you should have resistance like a jar has. If this doesn't then continue. 3. Loosen the small screw attached to the hand wheel center lug. Now, move the hand wheel into a position where it will tighten. 4. Go ahead and tighten the small screw. Now, it should move.

3. Slide spool pin holder/cap (illustration 2) firmly over rim of spool to prevent thread from tangling.

4. Lead thread passing it first through the lower slot of the thread guide. Next through the upper slot, leading the thread to the right and around (illustration 3).
5. Wind thread clockwise around front of bobbin winder tension disc (illustration 4).
7. Pass thread end, from inside, through small hole in rim of bobbin.
8. Holding thread end, step on speed controller to run machine until desired amount of thread is wound. (Winding stops automatically once bobbin is full.)
9. Cut thread; push bobbin to the left and remove it from bobbin winder pin.
10. Trim thread end from top of bobbin.
11. Press the bobbin winding indent on hand wheel to its original position. If necessary, turn hand wheel to engage needle movement.
