I have a Polaroid 4241-TLXB, I plugged my friend's laptop into the VGA port last week. When I switched resolutions via the laptop, the TV said "VGA source off / Powering down". It turned off (screen went black, blue power-on LED switched to orange standby LED), and now it won't turn back on (the standby LED remains orange when the TV is plugged in).

Use a different vga cable if that doesn't work change the settings on your laptop video output. If yo are not getting a signal from any input main board needs to be replaced to my knowledge most places only refurbish the main board or whole module. they usually ask you to send yours in before they send out a refurbished on.
Sorry! the tv still in warrenty?Take it back where u bought it,get a replacement remote. Not,try website 1-800-Remotes Factory original. To buy a new exact remote or very close to the original.
I think I may have just solved this issue. Remove the back covers and turn the tv on until it the screen goes black. There will be a little red led that will light up when the screen goes black. right above that light there is 4 little swiches, the bottom one is labled BURN. Switch that one to the opposite direction. I don't know how but mine has been working for a couple days now with no issues. GOOD LUCK!
I think I may finally have the answer for the "black screen of death" for the 42" Polaroid LCD televisions. I was having the same issue with the screen going black after a couple minutes of being on. I would shut it down then turn it back on and it would work again for 5-10 minutes. On the "power board" which is the board on top, there is a little red light that turns on when the screen would go black. above that there are 4 little switches, the lower on says BURN. I simply switched that over and the television has been working for 2 days for 8 hours + each day. Hope this help. Let me know
