More likely to be the power supply problem due to bad DC filter caps with domed tops, that will be the first place to look. Very common problem.

Usually a board---different names for each brand: Sustain, Y, Z etc.Some sets (sound like yours) use one to drive right side of picture and another for left side.The only bad news is Polaroid parts may be difficult if not impossible to find.
