Lenovo Y550 has been sitting without being used for many months. I tried to power up today with the AC adapter plugged in. It tries to start, the disk drive symbol flashes on for a second of two, and then everything stops. It was working fine the last time it was used. I've tried removing the battery, etc. with no success. Any ideas?

SOURCE: My ibm lenovo laptop is plugged in into the AC

Had a gateway laptop that had similar issues. 1. Has the unit ever overheated ? . if so you may have to open the case down to the battery, hopefully the unit has a plug in style battery, when you unplug it and wait 30seconds, then plug it back in you will reset the bios on the unit. I was about to junk my 6 month old computer until i tried this step. put it back together... every thing resumed as normal didnt lose or change a thing. hope this helps

SOURCE: Lenovo T60 power port not working

If the docking station charging doesn't work either and your battery is ok you have lost voltage regulator (it prevents overcharging of battery) Take the battery to a battery plus store and they can check it..

Take out dvd-rw drive, wifi card, hdd and check usb ports for bent pins. Try booting to cmos with old memory. If this doesn't work, try new memory and cmos boot. If laptop boots to cmos, motherboard is probably okay. If not you may have MB problem. If it boots to cmos, add removed items back one at a time.

You may need to remove all the power from the device including the CMOS Battery. As well try using an external display to see if there is any display.

If it works with the AC cord plugged in and not on battery, then you have a dead battery. Even when plugging in the battery it's going to try and charge the battery and THEN provide the computer with power. Get a new battery.

I have Lenovo Thinkpad R500 laptop, when I poweron the laptop, lights all lights flases on and then off altogether. The laptop is only a month old to the day of purchased.

First, check the AC cord where it plugs into the AC adapter. Sometimes it gets loose there.

If that isn't it, take the battery out of the machine and see if the machine will power on when just connected to AC. If so, try putting the battery back in.

hi,

You said laptop is working fine if just using the battery, that means that there is nothing wrong with the battery itself. Can yu please try to connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the mean time, remove the battery and connect the AC adapter directly to the power outlet then power on the laptop,if nothing happens, that means that there is something wrong with the AC adapter itself or the power port on the laptop.
Hope this will help...

Welcome to Fixya!

You can run the computer by just using the power adapter. Take out the battery and turn on the computer just using the power adapter. If the computer wont turn on then possible problem would be the power adapter itself or the socket where you connected the power adapter to your computer.
You need to send the computer to Lenovo depot repair center for repair. You may try to use other lenovo adapters just to check if the adapter is the problem.

The power in the battery is 0, not recharging, it is 2 month old

first you have to purchase new battery pack. while doing that you can use your laptop without battery pack. just plug the power adapter into the socket and to your laptop.
And, if the power adapter is plugged in, then still now power, you have to purchase also a power adapter.

New ideapad, doesn't have power

Based on your description of the issues you may be having a DC jack issue. I would suggest to insert the ac adapter and wiggle it around see if there any indicator of it try to charge the laptop. But in most cases that a laptop does not power on its due to the jack.
