Washer smells like stagnant water

Check the drain. It SHOULD stand about as high as the washer, behind it, and it SHOULD have a trap below the floor (basement?).

If the drain's good and the trap is fine, then the pump could be borderline - it it doesn't pump all the water out, some water remaining in the washer may become stagnant and smell funky.

do a pre wash every four weeks ..leave the water in the machine all night next day do a normal wash see if it helps

Hotp[oint Aquarius WD440 washer /dryer - Has a distinct smell from clothes when washed like stagnant water is lying somewhere in the machine, It has all benn stripped down but cannot find anything wrong. Whats the solution????

The smell usually comes when the washer is unable to drain water completely, you can run your washer at its hottest temperature setting with 1 cup of vinegar inside the unit. After this take off the bottom front panel and clean it completely, also clean the drain hose and drain pump filter, the smell should disappear after doing all this. How long between times when you use it? Any leftover water in the washer will get stagnant and smell bad if it sits for a few days

Try extra detergent in a load and oxyclean. It might take 2 wash cycles. Good luck!

I used 2 quartz of Clorox bleach running a full load without clothes. After that the odor has gone for good. Try that.

This is classic bad design actually.
Some washers are worse than others for this.

Use an oxygen based bleach in a trigger spray, and remove the detergent drawer. Use the spray everywhere in there - and remove the drawer completely to wash it in a mild bleach solution.
Use a small brush to remove the mould in there - and flush it down the pipe with more spray.
If you an get a foaming cleanser down there - then even better - or an alcohol based sanitiser spray.

Also wipe over the door seal rubber - as this sometimes collects stagnant water in the folds.

Reassemble, and do a hot wash with a few white hand towels to remove all the bleach.

You may need to do this every month.
Doing hot washes helps - maybe with a cap of bleach.

(I think the manufacturers do this on purpose - so you wash more often - breaks machines - you buy a new one etc.)
