HI, Your unit is very old and it can be repaired. Look for someone who does vintage synthesizer repair. John, Syntronics.

The answer is repair shop if you don't have tools or experience with soldering. If you do it is simple to take it apart and take the old supply jack out. Take it to an electronic parts supplier so they can match a new one up for you. Make sure that the holes in the circuit board are clean and free of broken pins. Make sure that the traces leading to the holes are intact. Do not use too much heat or they will separate from the board. It might help to take the adapter with you as the jacks and plug have to match in size.

SOURCE: I have a Casiotone MT70 made in 1984. How do I

Here is how you might check the polarity of a 7.5 volt DC replacement adapter:

Put the 5 batteries into the unit and verify operation. NOW using a DC voltmeter measure the voltage from battery negative and meter negative connected and meter positive to the pin on the power jack. IF you see 7.5 volts positive, then the pin is the positive lead for the adapter.

If you see zero, then continue testing.

With the 5 batteries inserted, connect the positive meter lead to the positive of the stack of batteries. Now touch the negative meter lead to the pin.
If there is 7.5 volts there, then the pin is the negative lead for the adapter.

READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

USUALLY the jack has a contact that disconnects the batteery when the plug with sleeve is inserted.. We are testing the jack without inserting a plug here so the plug should HAVE THE BATTERY VOLTAGE with correct polarity on the pin.

Testimonial: "Very clear explanation for a non-techie to understand. Many thanks."

I lost my adapter to my keyboard and I need to find either a substitute or a new way to turn it on without the adapter, HELP!!!.

Some Casio Keyboards use 9V DC (center negative) others 12V DC (center negative).
If check what voltage your Keyboard use. Generic AC adapters are usually center positive. So you have to invert the wire with a new DC plug to make it center negative,
Easiest is to buy a Casio ac adapter made for your keyboard from a Casio retailer.

Casiotone MT-220 keyboard power cord

I would inspect the unit for corrosion on battery terminals AND the power connector. The connector has a switch when a cord is plugged in, and if this switch doesn't work (they get bent) the unit will not work on batteries.
Best source of power adapters is often your local thrift store.
MATCH the voltage and whether it is AC or DC required AND the polarity if the pin is + or -.
Get one with enough current.
