Bowed flickering green screen, black on bottom

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

I have an Oster wine cellar. the fan stopped working could it be a fuse and how do I replace it?

Do not bother trying to contact the company which made the unit they are being indigted on fraud. The good thing is that there is a simple solution to your problems. Replace the small fuse under the electric shrink wrap. This fuse is located near the red and green led lights on the electronic panel in the back of the unit. Replace with a 6.3 or 7 amp 250 volt fuse 3 x20mm , which can be found at Radio Shack. You will need to know how to solder in order to replace. All total cost to replace the fuse is about $3.00 and a half an hours time. The unit works great now, I paid another $3.00 to put in an inline fuse holder for the future when this fuse blows, if it does.

Fans not working

I had the same problem as other bloggers--temp would not decrease and fan did not run. . . as suggested by others, I replaced the 5A heat-shrink wrapped fuse in upper left corner of circuit board (fuse is covered in black heat shrink wrap and is in a U-shape). I unsoldered the two ends of the fuse on the circuit board (be sure you locate the correct two holes) and then replaced it with two parts from Radio Shack--a 5x20mm Inline Fuse Holder rated at 250V AC, 5A (part # 270-1238) and used a 6.3A slow-blow 250V fuse (part # 270-1066). Now the wine Refir works great!

To replace the part take all the screws off the sheet metal covering on the back of the refrigerator. Remove the circuit board from the plastic holder. I left all the wires plugged in and just unsoldered the fuse with the circuit board still connected--but to solder you will need an extra pair of hands to hold the board while you solder.

If you don't have it, get some silver solder while at Radio Shack and a thin, needle-point soldering iron tip. Radio shack has 30W soldering irons for less than $10. You really don't need soldering experience--just a steady hand. Even if you have none of these parts your total outlay at RadioShack is less than $25 for everything.
