A top-load washer tub is usually supported by four suspension rods. If one of the suspension rods becomes dislodged or breaks, the control board may stop the spin cycle several times to try to balance the clothes. Suspension rods will often come in a set of four and it is recommended to replace all four of the rods at the same time to reduce uneven wear.
Do you mean a Hotpoint Aquarius WDL 540 washer? The wash cycle timing is available in the manual on page 8 of the manual (see link below). A normal-sized cottons wash at 40 degrees C takes about 150 minutes (2 1/5 hours) if you have good water pressure and do not use too much detergent. The coloreds cycle is shorter (just under 90 minutes). The indicator lights on the very right hand side (in a downward slash pattern) give the cycle status information. The top light is wash, and the next one down is rinse. The rest are Spin, Dry and End of Cycle. See page 7 of the manual. The function buttons, below the wash temperature and drying time/humidity selection knobs, are from left to right: Super Wash, Extra Rinse, Mini Load, Slow Spin. These are given on page 9. The dryer dial gives you the choice of selecting a dry time from 40-180 minutes or by humidity. The humidity options are Iron (leaves clothes slightly damp), Hanger (ready to put away) and Cupboard (to dry heavy items like towels to a very dry stage). Note the dryer can't manage as large a load as the washer function does. You may need to split the load after doing the wash.

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.
This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:
Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.
These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.
NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.
If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

After the odor has been removed washing habits need to change so it doesn't return. Washing machine odor is caused by
1. Overuse of detergent. Use no more than 1 tbsp of whatever detergent is used (unless washing soiled clothing).
2. Using fabric softener because it's dispensed in the rinse cycle. Dryer sheets or dryer balls are better options. Dryer sheets can also be overused and coat the inside of the dryer with siliconized chemicals that cause clothing to retain odors. Sensors inside the dryer can also be affected. The sheets can be torn in half or thirds
3. Using mainly cold water for washing is fine but makes preventive maintenance important. A hot wash or soak as your last cycle on wash day will help to dissolve residue.
4. Many front loading washer have a filter/trap that will catch debris. A partially clogged filter/trap can cause draining problems and odor. Save money on appliance repair by cleaning it yourself. Consult your owner's manual for instruction.
Make sure the half load / drying button is pushed in also and the drying time set. Do you know whether the temperature dial controls the washing or drying cycle. Have shrunk too many jumpers. Thanx
Not sure about the drawer leak, but have some ideas about the refusal to empty.
Have a look at the section in your instruction manual (copy here: http://www.serviceforce.co.uk/pdfs/U23119.pdf) about cleaning the filter (pages 20-21).
Check the filter isn't completely choked. Expect quite a lot of water to come out when you remove the filter.
While you've got the filter out, have a look in the hole it came out of. At the back of the cavity you should see the pump impeller (looks like a four-bladed fan). With the power off(!) give this a spin with your fingertip. It should be free to turn (although it's normal for the movement to be very notchy). If it won't turn, see if you can find anything jammed up in it.
Keep looking in the same cavity. Somewhere about halfway back, usually on the top wall, you should find a large hole (this is how the dirty water gets into the pump). Slip your finger as far into this as you can without getting it stuck, and just check nothing is blocking it (20p coins are favourite problems here).
If you've still drawn a blank, then without replacing the filter turn the power back on, set the machine going on a spin cycle, and look to see if the pump impeller is whizzing round. Don't be tempted to touch it, as it can rap your knuckles very hard. If it won't turn, you probably need a new pump.
Replacing a pump is a pretty low-stress affair. It's more or less obvious where everything is meant to go. You can get a new pump from one of the internet parts suppliers for about £35 (it's worth shopping around, as prices very wildly).
Hope this helps a bit.
