Acoustic Research HD510 sub is not working. I have speaker wire running from my receiver to the sub then from the sub speaker wire runs to the speakers, the speaker work great! I have tried running a single rca cable from my sub connection on the receiver to the line in and line out on the sub, I get no sound still. I have checked the fuse and it is good. The sub has power.

What happened just prior to the sub failure? Have you tried a continuity test across the sub speaker coil?

SOURCE: Can Acoustic Research wirless speakers be used for surround?

yeah, I looked it up on thier website. Here is what they say.

Warning: This product is designed to work with line level outputs or headphone outputs only.

DO NOT connect it directly to speaker outputs as it will permanently damage the transmitter.

You can use these as surround speakers if you like. You just need a line level surround output on the receiver. Most high end receivers have this feature but, you may only have speaker level outputs.

If that is your case the only option you have is to use a "speaker to line level adapter".... http://www.crutchfield.com/p_543ADP12/Russound-ADP-1-2-Speaker-level-to-Line-level-Adapter.html?tp=9070

Now crutchfield.com is always a little high on prices but if you look around I have seen them around $10 online.

Good luck with your project.

SOURCE: I have a set of Wireless Acoustic Research

Try using a different source than your television. If it works, then there's an issue with the output of the TV. However, if you use the same cables as you were using with the TV, they may be bad. Try using another device with a different set of cables to plug into the transmitter, which should help identify where your problem really is. Please rate my answer, thanks.

SOURCE: Acoustic Research AR-1 Qusetion- LFE Input and Output functions??

using the LFE input will give you cleaner less distorted bass. You must have a sub out on your receiver or pre-amp. it will give you greater control over the bass output of your system. If you only have one sub-out on your receiver simpley run a 10ft rca from the sub-out of reciever to the rca input of either speaker than use the rca out of 1st speaker to the rca input of second speaker. check to see if you have control of the level of your sub-out on your reciever. adjust the 30hz boost on rear of speakers. now you will have bass that most people only dream of having.

Can I wire a 3 ohm sub on a separate speaker line with my 4 ohm speakers on another and play in conjunction on a 250W receiver?

That will depend on the ohms the receiver wants to see, You will need to research your receiver on the manufacturers website or in the owners manual.
But if you are asking if you can run your subs on the same channel of power as you mains, then no. You need to separate the mains signal from the subs on different amplifier channels.

Acoustic Research Model AW871 wireless sterio speakers

Your connection between the AR transmitter and the ONKYO receiver sounds solid. I'd guess it's the wireless speakers that are the wrong point, or at least that's what I'd look at first. Doing a bit of research, I noticed a couple minor points. First, these seem prone to RF interference from other RF devices. Have to tried switching channels on them? Second, someone reported theirs would not work properly unless the speakers were turned on just before the transmitter, and turned off shortly after the transmitter. Apparently you have to hold the button on the front in for 5 seconds to turn the speakers on or off. I know that's rather basic, but it's been a few days and no one else has responded, so I figured we should start somewhere.

Makes a loud humming noise when plugged in, even when it is not conncted t the AVR

Humming noise could be an indicator of bad capacitors in the amplifier. You can take the amp out, pull the cover off, and look at the capacitors. If they appear to be swollen at the top, with some brown ooze coming out of them, then they need to be replaced. You can actually do this yourself from radio shack parts, just get the proper sized voltage and uf capacitors, desolder the old ones, and solder the new ones back in.

I have to do this every 5 years, or so, to my old MTX home sub amp.

My acoustic research hd510 has a loud humming noise

check your audio line in connection, either L or R signal line floating may also cause humming noise. Sub woofer usually very sensitive. If your audio input not connected, do you still hear humming noise? in actual you should not hear such noise, unless volume at max then it is possible to hear little.

I have a s108sp subwoofer with a right and left input assuming this is for a cable going to one input on my Sony reciever. The subwoofer also has inputs for speakers. Do I plug the speaker wires into...

Hey there houleo!
If your subwoofer has a stereo input and stereo outputs, then it's a good idea to send the signal from your receiver to the sub, then out to the other speakers you have hooked up. Some subwoofers will take the low frequencies out of the signal to the left and right speakers, so that the sub handles it alone. This often gives a nice crisp sound.

I just got a Acoustic research S108 PS subwoofer from a friend. No instruction manual. I'm wondering how to connect this to my stereo system. I have an old JVC amp with a out RCA jack marked SUBWOOFER, but...

What makes you feel that isn't right?

You can't just slap a sub onto a receiver and have it work optimally (if at all). The receiver must typically be configured to know it has a sub, then bass managment and sharing decisions must be made, then crossover frequency choices and levels adjusted to match it all up.

All self-powered amps work that way.

Have you looked at the manual for your JVC?

Just got two AR 312 HO speakers from my brother. I have a Yamaha HTR 6250. The speakers have (2) sets of cable hook up. One I assume is for built in sub woofers? Do I hook one normal and one to the sub...

do not use those speakers with that amp, those are 4 ohm speakers, which could damage your 8 ohm yamaha amp. you will have to get a 4 ohm capable amp to run the highs, and another 4 ohm amp to run the subs.

car amplifiers are currently 4 ohm, or even 2/1 ohm stable, but few, if any modern receivers can run at anything lower than 8 ohms without a danger of overheating. you may have to get a vintage amp(s), like a 1970's marantz receiver, or a 1980's to early 1990's kenwood power amp, because 4 ohm home amps are pretty scarce nowadays.

whatever amp(s)( you get, verify that they are DEFINITELY 4 ohm stable.

Sub quit working, where do I find new board/amp/crossover panel

I have the same problem with mine and since Acoustic Research went out of business, I too have been looking for a solution. I may have found an alternative to throwing away this really nice speaker. I found a company on the web that appears to sell an amp that may fit nicely into this speaker enclosure for $99.00. Check it out...http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?DID=7&PartNumber=300-805

UPDATE Feb-16-2016: This Amp is still going strong since 2012 when I replaced it. The price has gone up to 139.00, but may still be worth it to replace a bad one given the cost of Sub's today.
