Microphone Not Working!

If this is a microphone that connects to the 3.5 mm microphone jack, check that your microphone is connected to the Mic port (pink on the rear of a desktop). Make sure that the plug is fully seated. If you are using a front microphone jack on a desktop, try using the rear port (or vice versa). Next, if you have Windows, check that the audio input is set to Microphone, instead of Line In. (For Windows 7, this would be Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices (under Sound) and the recording tab.) Microphone should be your default device.

Next try uninstalling the audio driver and letting Windows reinstall the driver. Use the Device Manager (under Devices and Printers in the Hardware and Sound Control Panel). Expand the section labeled Sound, video and game controllers. Then right click on the Audio driver. Click on Uninstall then reboot the computer after the driver is removed. The correct driver should be reinstalled. (I believe that you do not have a separate driver for the microphone under Windows but you should make certain of that.) Check for driver updates as well. The Windows Update may list these as Optional updates.

If you have a USB microphone, try a different port. Also check for drivers from the manufacturer.

If you have an Apple or Unix OS, check for similar issues with the connection or drivers.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(who had a similar problem with Audacity recording on the line in port last month; I fixed the problem by uninstalling the audio driver and then reinstalling it. Then changing the Recording Source to Line In finished the fix. The driver got changed by a computer tune-up utility (registry cleaner).)

The recording head is probably the source of the problem and will need to be replaced, other than putting a dry cleaning tape or better still a new blank tape, allow it to play right through, it may work.

To fix this problem.

Please go back tot he step 1 select video source.
Make sure that the dazzle device is selected and not Pinnacle file capture.

If the dazzle device is not in the list. It means that the computer is not recognizing the device. Try to connect the device to other USB port and please check it again.

You can download the driver of the capture device in the link below.

My speakers work but my mic does not. I cant see any hardware for my mic

Note that the microphone is not listed individually in Device Manager because it works through your sound card. Perform the steps in the following sections in order, and then test to determine if your issue is resolved after each section.

NOTE: The microphone should be selected as the recording device in the Volume Control tool(sndvol32.exe).

To verify this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
  1. In the Open box, type sndvol32.exe, and then click OK.
  2. Click Properties on the Options menu.
  3. In the Adjust volume for box, click Recording.
  4. Click OK.
  5. In the Microphone box, verify that the Select check box is selected.
All the properties listed on the Playback section of the Volume control are independet of the recording settings. So you could record through the microphone by selecting it on the recording section, and mute it on the playback section. Then, you could record sound, but wouldn't hear it through the speakers while you are recording. Check Your HardwareIf your microphone has never worked, or if it has stopped working, first check the physical connection of the microphone. Verify that it is firmly plugged into the microphone port instead of the headphone or speaker port. If you are not sure which port is correct, you can check the sound card to see if it is marked (sometimes with a picture of a microphone), you can use a process of elimination, check the documentation that came with your hardware, or contact the hardware manufacturer. Sound Recorder
  1. Run the Sound Recorder tool: Windows 95Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Multimedia, and then click Sound Recorder. Windows 98Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click Sound Recorder.
  2. After Sound Recorder is running, click Record (the circle on the right side), and then speak into the microphone. If it is plugged into the correct jack, the line on the display should move up and down. If it does not move, sound is not making it through your microphone. If the line does move, press Stop, press Rewind, and then press Play to listen to your recording. If this works, but it does not work in your program, view the "Using the Microphone in Programs" section in this article.
  3. Still Cannot Record
If you cannot record a .wav file after you follow the steps in the previous section, there may be a problem with your microphone property settings. To check these settings:
  1. Double-click the Speaker icon on the taskbar, and then verify that the Microphone slider is at the top and that the Mute check box is not selected. If Mute is selected, click to clear the check box.
  2. Select Properties from the Options Menu. Select Recording and click OK. Verify that theSelected check box under Microphone is checked, and that the Microphone slider is at the top.
  3. Try recording a .wav file again.

Every fax we try to send it comes up with a error tx report of "NG". What does "NG" mean and how can we fix it?

Hello.

NG means: Some or no pages sent.

Check the paper feeder to see if the page is pulling through.
Listen to see if the fax line "sounds"like it is working or if you hear dialing or not.

Hope this helps.

No output to speakers from line-in port

Usually record turntables are not amplified at all.
Also make sure you are using Line In (stereo) and not Mic In (Mono). And be sure the cable from the record player (turntable) is stereo also.
Check your audio settings in your pc software and make sure the Line In is not muted and is at the correct level for you to hear it. Some sound cards also allow the Line In to be Line level or Pre-Amped the signal from the turntable may need to be boosted. Let me know if this solves you problem or maybe I can help further.
Please help me continue to help you with a good rating when it is deserved. Thanx, - CompuWayne

How do i recod on the ctk-900 casio?

Try running a line out from your keyboard to the line input on your mac. Go into system preferences, select sound, click the input bar in the upper right corner, select line in/Audio line-in port, then adjust your input volume. You should then be able to record from your keyboard. If this doesn't help you, please let me know. I'm a recording engineer that uses a MacBook for all my multi-track recording projects. Thanks & good luck. Mark

I get a humming sound when I record a video

There a quite a few reasons why this could happen.

  1. The sound device could be malfunctioning.
  2. The cables are not plugged in all the way.
  3. The camera may be close to a noise maker such as a fan, air conditioner, or your PC fan.
  4. The sound wires could be crossed with an electrical wire which sometimes creates static or a hum.
  5. If you are using a normal Microphone, there could be static on the port or connector.
  6. The record volume levels are too high, or mic boost has been enabled and is picking up extra sound.
I hope one of these examples helps to fix your problem, if it doesn't, please get back with me and we can try something else. Good luck!

A computer has line out and that means sound out from the computer to your speakers. A line out can also be connected to a recording device or a pair of speakers with an amp built in. Line in on a computer can be used to record audio from other equipment such as a Dj on his decks to record his set. It can also record audio from mp3 players etc. Line in can be used for mic's and also you can use mic in as well. To record any audio onto your computer use line in. Line out can also used for headphones and the mic will plug into mic in so you can talk online.
