You can run disk defragmenter. also run a virus scan. Also check the amount of ram you have installed. If its less than 1GB (1000MB) i suggest upgrading it.

1) First scan your system to determine which driver you need: http://h20270.www2.hp.com/ediags/gmn2/index.aspx?detectProducts=Start+Detection+%BB&lc=en&cc=us
2) Alternative free driver updater software, e.g. http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/index.htm - let it scan and update all your missing drivers.
Official drivers are only for Windows 95 and 98: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=33530 (But it states on another website that it might also work on other versions of Windows - try it!)

you might need to reinstall the sound card driver
I would need the model of your computer to tell you what driver you need
here you can type the modem number and you can find the driver http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

if you need for assistance I also recommend talking to HP 800-474-6836
