The blades should not hit only reason a blade hit a blade is if the spindle bearing is out so check that out see if there worn out should be no movement in spindle bearing side to side

SOURCE: When I pull up on the PTO lever the blades don't

You have a belt adjustment problem, or a broken belt. Look at the area where the belts are, you will probably see problem immediately. Good Luck

I have a jd170 and as soon as I hit the pto switch the mower dies I just replaced the $40 pto switch and that's not the problem

if the blades turn freely then you are going to have to replace the pto or ignition switch, take the drive belt off, does the pto work?,if not,it is electrical, check switch then pto, then pto safety switch

PTO not working

You have snapped the shear pin that is in the drive pulley. You have to remove the pulley that spins on it's shaft off and put a new shear pin into it. I have replaced several myself. The shear pin is a protection to prevent costly breaks.

Hi I have the YTH2348, the problem i'm having is i'm getting a bearing sounding squeal when i have the blade clutch engaged. I noticed before it starts to squeal I'll hear a like loud click and...

if its an elect pto then it sounds like its in the workings of the pto pully

also if its a manual lever that you move to engage the belt, it could be the pully that tightens up the belt and turns the blades, most of the pullies are greaseless and prettymuch throw away

hi there nchernuka

have you checked that the engine to chassis bolts are still tight and the mounts are ok,

have you checked that you havn't bent the pto shaft ( this will be evident if you remove the blade carrier and blades, then the plug and pull the gine over - check wobble ), check that blade carrier is in good condition and the pto woodruff key is ok and the carrier centre pto bolt is tight

check that anything that is under the mower body is still tightly attached and is not getting swung into the path off the blades - ie catcher tounge - metal body brackets etc

i would also suggest you check the feather timming key in the flywheel too especially if it kicks back when you try to start it

cheers have a look

hope it helps pauly46

I hit a hidden log with the blade and it threw the belt. I replace the belt; however, now when I engage the PTO the engine dies.

Your log did more than throw the belt. Something is not able to turn, so when you engage the PTO, the blades stop the motor. Look for another belt jammed, or a bent spindle or piece of log jammed under the deck.
