Sony Bravia KVL-V40A10 - pixelated lines top and bottom of screen

Has anyone come across this before? We have had our TV for approx 3 years now. Nothing has changed ie - TV configuration same as the night before - no loose cables etc...

However, 2 nights ago, switched on the TV to find what can only be described as 'missing pixesl' in a line about an inch from the top and an inch from the bottom of the screen.

Is this a sign that the TV is shot and needs repairing/replacing already? I hope not!

Thank you for quick reply. Yes, they are visible for all external inputs (TV, satellite, amplifier, DVD). The only time they are not visible is when we select "Photo" from the menu or the 2nd picture when you use twin picture function.

Are these lines visible regardless of what device (DVD player, cable box) you are watching?  If so, then yes, it appears the LCD panel is failing.  If you only see the lines watching one device, it could be the cable/wire or the device itself.  Now it can also be the related input jacks too so connect the device to another input to be sure.

I have a Sony FD Trinitron 27' Model # KV-27FV310. It is approx 8 years old. After turning it on and watching a full screen for a few minutes; all of a sudden, a line came across half the screen;

top half missing is in vertical circuit of set---if it is a 27 inch and this old consider retiring it and replacing----other option is consider having a shop repair it--a rough guess would be as high as 150 dollars parts and labor is possible for your problems.

I have a black approx 12 inch streak on the left side(facing tv) of my flat screen Bravia Sony TV . It is approximately 3 years old. It started as a brown panel..then became a fine lined multy colored...

sadly you have a bad panel. Sony panels carry a two year warranty.
your best hope is to call Sony and ask for a warranty extension to cover the cost of the part.

I own a 5 year old 40" sony bravia lcd tv, When

This sounds like what I managed to do to my screen, even though I knew better. Is there any chance you layed the screen face down at some time?

Even though you can still watch it OK, you probably have hairline fractures in the screen face (NOT the screen itself- be thankful for that- the cracks are in the screen coating). LCD screens are a very thin glass laminate with a thin protective glass-like coating. When they are laid flat (like I did to connect cables) if the screen bears any weight, microcracks develop on the front of the screen.

I am sorry to say that the effect is permanent.

Hi,
I'm sorry, it sounds problem with lcd panel (screen) that is defective and causing lower half distorted image. If tv is under warranty then call number written on warranty documents for warranty cover or lcd panel (screen) replacement would cost you approx 80% of new tv price.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

My Sony Bravia get a wide (about a foot) line up and down my screen. It goes off an on when it wants to. It picks up background colors and it stays like that for a while. What can I do?

I don't know what does your mean by "line up and down my screen", if the line goes up from the bottom to reach the top of screen then goes back down to the bottom cycles, that symptom I have never seen. But if the line goes off and on, very high probability is the panel defective (see the picture, the ICs inside the panel loose, shall cause the Vertical or horizontal dead pixel lines). It is the most serious issue on the flat panel TV. Because the manufactory sells the panels, price even excess the TV.
If you need more accurate diagnose, you can post a picture.

My SOny Bravia 40 inch LCD TV has a vertical line

Hi,

It could be 1 of 4 things:
1. One of the ribbon cables has worked itself loose (Simple Fix)
2. One of the assembly boards maybe faulty
3. The driver board which feeds the panel maybe faulty
4. The panel is faulty

The driver board in the UK costs approx £70 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.

All other parts are between £80-160 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.

The panel will cost approx 50-75% of what the TV was worth when you bought it - "Repair versus Replacement"

Thanks
