Getting hot stove

I have a Hotpoint RB787DPWW. One of the stove tops heats up by itself quickly and shuts off as if on the low setting. The problem is that it does not stay off or cool down even when the dial is set to "off". Another thing to note is that the dial does not lock like the others do and can be moved without pushing it in like the others.

Replace the switch for that element. Be sure to unplug unit beforehand.

I believe they make an oven cleaner for self clean ovens. Don't try regular oven cleaner. Ruins finish.

sounds like abad oven ignitor issue, repalce hte ignitor nad it should light everytime

sound as if you only have 120 volts going to the range check the voltage

The surface burner light goes on but the burners only get
slightly warm

Not working

There is a thermostat on the unit. it is probably set too low.
So the heater quickly hits the low temperature and shuts the heat off, then when the temp drop it will come back on.

Hotpoint oven won't heat above 250 degrees broiler works fine as well as the stove top

either its the oven sensor rod located at the top of the ovens cavity,or your bake element could be getting a hot spot which is when it gets a discolored spot in the element and can no longer pass sufficient current to heat the oven past 250 degrees

I have a Hotpoint RGB745 when i turn the stove on it never gets out of pre heat mode. oven is warm but not hot. top burners work fine

The stove knobs won't turn on the oven. If you've already checked the igniter, take apart the top and look for loose wires. My husband found a loose one going to the control board, tightened it and now things seem to be working.

My stove does not get hot enough

your oven/stove thermo-couple has gone bad and senses too much heat too soon before its actually hot and shuts off the gas supply,it is located inside the oven cavity in a clip on the top of the oven cavity and is normally replaced with the oven control dial as a calibrated unit

That is what the oven elements are suppose to do. When it gets to temp the thermostat cuts the elements off and as it cools they will heat back up. if it cuts off and wont heat back up its probably the thermostat

the electric went off wasnt sure why at the time but when i reset the trip fuse my oven stopped heating up so somethingobviously blew in the oven to cause the the elctrics to trip,

The swich for the burner is bad and needs to be replaced. The glass will be fine, but unless your just boiling water you wont be abe to use it until you replace the switch.
