Harddisk security lost password-help!?

Hi,

The hard drive has been locked in the BIOS. If you cannot get into the bios with a password you can contact Dell for a code to unlock the BIOS and drive ... Here is a link that might help.

If a hard disk is password protected, you must get the password. There is normally no way around it.

However, if the user password has been set, the administrator password on the hard disk can be used to delete it. I am not talking about Windows accounts here, I refer to passwords stored in the firmware of the hard disk.

You lost it you need to go to the wdc website and ask them. Chances are they will tell you to bad so sad, but they are your best bet for help on these things. They do make them afterall.

reset the cmos by replacing the cmos chip to the other two pins on the motherboard (there r three pins) and remove and refit the battery and replace the cmos chip to its original pins, that will reset the bios password which is asked prior starting OS or format the harddisk partition using windows installation disc, hope that helps

need more info is this a IBM? mechine what OS the password what made (providing IBM) when the drive was activated formatted. was this bought used? is the company that you bought it from still around if not you can try the simple 12345 NOTE!!!! you will only have three chances to try then the drive will lock and become totally useless in which you will have to buy another drive and OS unless you have the install disk

It sounds to me that someone has passworded the hard drive. If you do not know the password, there is no way to access the hard drive. The two options in this case are get the password from whoever put it on or uy a new harddrive. People usually password their harddrive in case it is stolen or lost, then nobody can read thei data or use their computer.

Power on, enter the bios setup (press F2, F10 or [Delete] when powering up and go to the "security" section.
Locate "drivelock" or "harddisk password", from there disable the HD lock.
