Cracked HP laptop LCD

I've had my HP laptop since April 2008 and recently noticed a crack on the screen the other day. It was about 4 inches in length and since then it has spread quite a bit. It this problem repairable and is it under warranty?

Under warranty if it is a defect from manufacture or if you bought extended warranty from retailer, some policy's cover damage. Only covered if policy is still within time of purchase.

If it is not covered it will be cheaper to replace computer than repair.

You can search here for warranty from manufacture.

I have a HP Pavillion TX 1000. Did everyone heard

It is highly improbable that heat from the CPU can crack a LCD screen. Even if the fan was faulty the CPU would have shutdown (thermal overload) before it would affect the LCD screen. If you apply pressure to the face of the LCD screen or twist the screen or impact the screen with a hard object, any of these will cause the LCD screen to crack.

Cracked HP Laptop Screen

Cracked displays are never coverd by normal warranty. Unless HP is aware of an issue on your model where this happens by itself, the service will not be coverd by warranty. You might want to check if you have any insurance that might cover it.

The LCD can be replaced, althogh it is usually quite costly(depending on the model). You can either send it in for service or do it yourself. If you dont have any experience with opening laptops I would recommend you send it in for service because of the weak plastic in the displayassembly that brake easily.

If you do want to replace it yourselfe I can find you the partnumber for the part. But im going to need the modelnumber from under the machine. It should look something like this AA111BB#CCC.

LCD monitor has a black slash where no color shows

Sadly its a crack in the screen. Laptops take a lot of abuse no matter how careful you are with them. The fact that they are moved 6-10 a day makes them very susceptible to damage.
