How do i hook up my router?

There are several ways to do this, depending on how your network is configured.

Generally, if you have only one router - you connect the network jack of your cable modem or DSL modem to the WAN ("wide area network" or "internet") jack of the router with a CAT 5 network cable or jumper. Each computer's network jack would be connected to one of the router's (4) LAN ("local area network" or "home network") jacks labeled 1, 2, 3, & 4.

steve_con_12.jpg
In the picture above, the left most jack (WAN) of the router connects to the cable or DSL modem. The "LAN" jacks labeled "1, 2, 3 & 4" connect to each computer's network jack in your home.

The above would change if you are simply adding this router to extend an existing network. You'd likely be using this router as a switch, and leaving the routing duties to the main router. Over simplified, all the CAT 5 network cables would be connected to the 4 LAN jacks. There would be no connection to the router's WAN jack because the output of the first router provides only private IP addresses used in YOUR location. The internet IP address from your ISP is used only at the first router so that your entire home has the single IP address. The WAN jack is for internet addresses only - and the LAN jacks are for local / private addresses in your home only.

Have a look at the LinkSys web site for help configuring your particular model router, or reply with the model and version here.

I hope this helps & good luck. Please rate my reply - thanks!

I have a linksys WRT54G, and I'm trying to hook up a wi-fi connection. As of now, my internet is Internet Explorer, and my current modem is a motorola SB5101. The Motorola modem is hooked up directly to...

Hello
Try this

1 disconnect all wires, including power from the modem and router.
2 Find reset button on router usually in the back, need a pen tip or paper clip to hold it in.
3 Hold in reset for 1 min.
4 Reconnect modem first,power up.
5 Reconnect router second, power up.

Try changing the ethernet wire from the modem to the router.

So your going to have your cable coax wire to the modem. Then a ethernet wire from the modem to the router, then a ethernet wire from the router to the computer.

Sounds like you may have one wire in the wrong place.

If you can connect to the Internet using the LAN cable then your Internet connection is OK.
If you are trying to connect to the Internet using the wireless connection, then your problem is the wireless settings in either the Linksys or the wireless card in your computer.
First check the wireless settings in the Linksys, ie. the SSID and encryption key.
Second check the wireless settings in the computer's wireless card, this must match the route's wireless settings. If it matched then do a Repair connection. this will get the Linksys to issue a new IP address to the wireless card.computer.
If the Linksys wireless settings were changed then configure the wireless card in the computer with these new settings.

HOW TO USE INTERNET IN MORE THAN ONE PC FROM LINKSYS WIRELESS G B

You have two ways on how you can get other computer online through this router. First, you can wired them (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the router. They are the ones labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Second is through wireless, but those computers that will connect through wireless must also have a wireless adapter to be able to pick up the signal that this router is broadcasting.

Are you trying to set up the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online
through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the
modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the
router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the
settings of the router according to the ISP.

Linksys rouder suddenly stoped alowing other computers net access

I would recommend upgrading the router firmware, if you have not done this already.

Download the firmware file from the Linksys website:
http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/

Typically, the upgrade is done by pointing your web browser at the IP address of the Linksys router. Linksys should provide specific instructions at the site above.
