You're probably missing a driver for it. Download it off the website for which ever mouse you're using and see if that works. If not try to see if your USB ports will read anything else. Like a flashdrive or get a USB keyboard and test them, assuming you're using a USB mouse.

SOURCE: Don't know how to reformat my emachine T5010 desktop PC

Reformatting your Windows computer is usually the absolute last resort and is often done unnecessarily. Before you go through the process of doing a reformat of your hard drive please take a few moments to read through the rest of our website. If you are reformatting to fix problems with your Windows computer it's possible that by using some of the tips on our site, or by downloading or purchasing some of the tools or products that we link to, you might be able to avoid the need to reformat your computer. Because doing a complete reformat of your computer will erase the contents of the hard drive and require you to reinstall all software, reformatting is usually a last resort. Some Computer Manufacturers Make Reformatting EasyMany name-brand PC manufacturers include a restore-disk which makes it easy to reformat your PC and return it to the state it was in on the day you purchased it. Some manufactures supply only a standard Microsoft Windows CD, and some (usually lower-end PC manufacturers) supply neither! If your PC did not come with a restore or reformatting CD, then you will need to take extra steps to format your hard drive and get Windows re-installed. Back Up Your Files Before You Reformat Your Windows PC!Because the reformat or restore process erases everything on your computer, it is critical to have a backup of any important files on your computer. You will also need your original software install disks to reinstall any software you have purchased.
Things to do before you reformat your PC hard drive

  • Write down or print out all notes and internet pages because once the format process begins, you will no longer have access to them (or anything else in the PC)
  • As already stated, BACKUP all important files and data! When you reformat your computer everything will be erased!
  • Make sure you have all the CDs and other software. All programs will have to be reinstalled after you format the hard drive. Don't forget about software that came with hardware such as printers, scanners, etc.
  • Write down the brand and information for all the hardware on your computer. Look in the Device Manager and make note of the brand and model of network adaptors, video cards, sound cards, printers, modems, and displays. After reformatting you might need this information to reinstall drivers.

SOURCE: Installation windows xp emachine t5082

You must find "eMachine" XP USB drivers for your computer.
If all USB support is "enabled" in BIOS, the conflict is with drivers.
XP is loaded with many generic drivers, however eMachines is proprietary and requires eMachine drivers for most on-board hardware.

Contact eMachines support to locate the drivers (if available).

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!

SOURCE: My emachine loads up PCI device listing and cant exit.

First of all your recovery disk didn't work and so it keep asking you for it.
Here’s what to do. Boot from your windows disc and choose Recovery Console when the Welcome to Setup screen appears (Press R to Repair the installation using the Recovery Console.) (Not the repair option on the installation/setup options screen).
If you do not have a standard US keyboard setup, e.g. You are in the UK with a UK setup, watch the grey strip at the bottom of the screen when the recovery console begins to load, which will ask you to press F5 (I think) and choose your keyboard language. If you don’t do this, your admin password, particularly if it contains non-alphanumerical characters may not be recognised. You will be taken to a black screen, which will ask which operating you wish to log in to. If you only have one, press ‘1’ and enter. If you have more than one, choose the operating system you wish log into and type in the appropriate number, followed by enter.
You will then be asked for the administrator password. If you do not have one press enter. If you do type it in and press enter.
You will be taken to a command prompt. Type in ‘chkdsk /r’ without the quotes. Note there is a space between the K and the forward slash. If you get the error message ‘Autochk.exe cannot be found’ or some other error in relation to a missing ‘autochk.exe’ file, then do the following at command prompt:
Type:CD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
Now try the ‘CHKDSK /r’ command again.
This may take quite some time. It will check the disk and file system for errors and try to repair them.
You will get a report at the end telling you if errors were found and if they were fixed-.
Sometimes you get a message saying the chkdsk could not run because the disc contains unrecoverable errors or something similar.

The next step is to reboot. If chkdsk ran and corrected your errors, you may well be able to boot back into your o/s.

If chkdsk was not successful and you still cannot boot or could not run chkdsk the next step is the same.

Follow the instructions above and go back into recovery console.
This time at the command prompt type ‘fixboot’, again without the quotes and enter.

You may get a message along the lines of are you sure; this may make your data unrecoverable. You have to make that decision. I personally have never known this happen, and my philosophical view is my data is currently unreadable (note: not unrecoverable) and I am prepared to take the chance. Are you?

Then you have two choices. Reboot to see if this works. If it does, all well and good. If not, or if you choose not to reboot (not critical, but not recommended), at the command prompt in recovery console type ‘fixmbr’, again without the quotes. You may get a similar warning to the ‘fixboot’ command. My advice is the same, but you much choose whether to take the risk or not. Restart.
Hopefully you will now have access to your pc and files.
These are the steps I take when encountering this and similar problems. I have found them to be 99.9% effective- in other words, they only failed me once and in that situation I believe the hard drive to have been defective and replaced it.
Without warranty, at your own risk.

It is possible for the Windows operating system on your eMachines computer to have a critical failure. If the operating system on your eMachines computer is failing, you can use your recovery discs to restore your computer. Recovery discs come with your purchase of an eMachine, and contain your operating system and all your basic drivers. You can recover your eMachines W series in about an hour.

Turn off your computer and press "F8" to enter the BIOS menu. Tab over to the "Boot Sequence" or "Boot Order" menu. Move your optical drive to the top of the list. Press "F11" to exit and save changes. Insert your recovery disc into your optical drive, then restart your computer. Press any key to boot from disc. Select the "Full Recovery" option from your recovery disc menu. Allow the recovery procedure to complete. Hope this helps.

Once the system begins booting from the CD, simply follow the promptsthat will allow the loading of the basic files needed to run Setup. When yousee the Welcome To Setup screen, press R to start the Recovery Console.

You'll then see a Recovery Console menu. It displays the foldercontaining the operating system's files and prompts you to choose the operatingsystem you want to log on to. Go into the BIOS, it will be in there...I don't remember where off hand, it won't be hard to find though.

Shut down your computer and wait for it to power down. Press the power button and look for a message that says "Press X to enter Setup." In most eMachines, this will be either the "F1" or "F2" key.
