My riccar sewing machine is kind of computerized. My son punched some buttons and now the needle arm won't come down at all when you step on the foot pedal even though its obvious it can do the various stitches. What do I do? Is there a code to unlock it? Cos I figure it's just locked. I love the machine

A model # would help. Do you have a manual? You can look for the riccar website and search the manual. If its available as download, you can use the CTRL+F function to "find" words like lock, needle, or other things that can narrow it down.

Same problem with my 400. I took it in to dealer and they said main computer board on my machine would have to be replaced. Fortunately, they agreed to get it fixed for me. My machine is 2 years old. How old is yours? I wonder if this could be a manufacturer defect on the machine? Maybe this needs to be addressed with Viking Husqvarna Corporate.

Good day!!!

If your screen stated"main motor blocked" then I suggest you remove the thread, both the top and the bottom. Please change the needle too.but If the problem is unsolved, kindly loosen or unscrew the casing which is in the front of the bobbin, then look/find anything that might be obstructing the bobbin. check again the thread, bobbin and needle. Also for the last thing put an oil to the parts which you think it needs it like the moving parts re-start or reboot it then leave for a whole night.
Thank you and good luck...

There is a sensor on the upper shaft that recognizes the position that the machine is in. A small disk on the upper shaft that has sections removed from it will block the sensor trough some range of operation and not at other times.I have never seen this in a 183, but you may have a sensor that is misaligned so that it doesn't completely block or clear the beam of light. It will need to go to an authorized repair center for repair. Some of these parts are very delicate. Don't risk damaging something working on it yourself.

Riccar 525 - makes a birring noise when I press foot pedal but the needle does not go up and down. I can turn dial at right hand side ok.

Sounds like the motor is trying to run but the other machine parts are not moving. If your machine is an older mechanical (not computerized), then it's very possible the machine has seized due to lack of regular cleaning and oiling. Avoid trying to run the machine in this condition as it can damage the motor.

Make sure you pull down the buttonhole lever from the underside of the machine (near where the needle threader is) If you don't do this, the machine will make a few stitches and then stop. with error 6L.

You can replace a sewing machine needle on your own. You can purchase needles online or at your local craft/sewing store. They will hopefully have a section there with sewing machines that they will then be able to show you, easily, how to replace the needle, because they're all pretty much the same. You can also check out this YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqBvGxzKwv0. It goes through the basic steps and should give you what you need in case you're ordering replacement needles online. You can get them at Joann's (do a google search) and just order regular, everyday machine sewing needles-you don't need special ones.
