SOURCE: Monitor going black

My HP f1703 is almost 3 years old and started having this same problem. My fix got the display to stay on. Don't know how long this fix will work. I set the monitor brightness to 51 and contrast to 41. You may have to adjust to your levels to your appropriate enviroment. Levels may determine how long the monitor stay operational. Do NOT set your monitor brightness to factory levels it will just start to recreate the problem again. Solution: The monitor should be on with the blue button lighted. If the screen is acting up (you turn it on and the display lights up and then it turns off within 2 to 5 seconds) Try decreasing the brightness level down as much as possible. Wait 15 to 30 seconds and see if the display comes back to life. If not, turn the monitor off and on again and try the procedure again, if necessary. Cause: I believe the monitor brightness level, set at 100 by the factory setting, is over driving the display and causing the protection circuit to cut off the flouresent lamps that light the display. HP had an issue with this display, and had a notice to replace them if the problem occurred during the warranty period. They extended the warranty period from Jun 04 to Feb 06. Check with HP Technical Support to determine if your monitor is cover.

SOURCE: RE:monitor goes black

Monitor going black after a few seconds can be causd by a faulty power supply or inverter. Some monitors have both as one unit.
Sometimes it is basic failed capacitors, After that then I would look at transistors.
The average monitor from 17 to 20 and sometimes the 22s have usually 4 bulbs in them. One bad bulb will also cause the inverter to not fire up.
Bad bulbs usually show pinkish tint, or flickering or are dark at center top or bottom of the display.

SOURCE: starlogic 20 inch widescreen monitor screen keeps going black

This is probably a back light problem. Take a bright flashlight and while the monitor is on, point it at the LCD and try different angles, etc. If you can see an image, it is the back light, probably the back light voltage converter unit in the lcd. It could also be the back light bulbs.

If you don't see an image with the flash light, then it could be the main logic board.

SOURCE: SCREEN GOES BLACK AFTER A FEW SECONDS AFTER TURNING MONITOR ON.

More often then not, this is attributed to a failing Backlight Inverter. A Backlight Inverter, is a power board mounted below the screen that actually send power to the Lamp inside the LCD itself. Check to see, when it goes out if there isn't still some images faint in the screen. If this is the case take it to a local repair shop and have them order one and replace it. repair cost for this shuold be around 65-100 dollars.

If this helps, please rate my solution. Have a great day.

Why does screen go black after a few seconds

Hope this helps.... Your monitor has an inverter issue. You know it's an inverter problem when:
1. Your monitor starts normally and displays the startup/desktop screen for a while.
2. Then it suddenly goes off, leaving a blank (black) screen or a very dim display.

To fix this black screen problem, change the inverter board (based on your monitor brand).

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

Sounds like either there is a bad connection from the computer to the monitor, or the monitor has a faulty power regulator, causing the monitor to overheat prematurely, and shut off.

Monitor goes blank after 3 seconds -Samsung SyncMaster 920NW

Could be a power issue. If it doesn't show anything at all then that may be the case. It may also be the display itself. It would be a costly repair so you might be better off finding a new monitor.

My screen goes black after a few seconds

Sounds like a bad solder joint on the printed circuit board. Once it heats up then it no longer makes good contact and the monitor goes black until it cools down and makes contact again. You could resolder it if you knew where it was but monitors are dangerous to go playing around with as they can hold very high charges of electricity in their capacitors that are very dangerous. It's a throw away world. Go buy a new one.

Screen goes blank after a few seconds

Hi ,
The monitor flicker problem. The monitor when turn on will display image for couple of second then turn black. The monitor status led is still green. This will happen each time it is turn on. The symptom at appear to come from the inverter board.

Monitor going black

HP's are known for bad capacitors in the power supply.
Replacing them is simple if you know how..not so simple if you don't.
Try your local TV repair centre. It should not cost alot to have the capacitors replaced.

Hope it helps =)
