sounds like dust, if you know some one with an air compresser ask them to give it a blow through, if not then it is down to caned compressed air, if that is not enough, you need to open it, and clean the contacts (DVD cleaner is cheap and good)
Yes, you need to have midi in/out on your computer. Also you would need the optional AC adapter, which can be purchased separately from akai, in order to power your controller
You can try this. STEP 1: Set Program protect and Combi Protect to OFF. - GLOBAL - Using PAGE+ or PAGE-, find untill the display show "3A-MEMORY PROTECT". Set the parameter to OFF by using YES or NO button. STEP 2: Data Load. - GLOBAL. - Using PAGE+ or PAGE-, find untill the display show "05A-PRESET DATA". Change ALL to PRG (your case). Use Left/Right Arrow button to moving cursor. Choose "PRE-a" (your case). Move cursor to "OK?". Press YES when "OK" blinking for confirm. Exit (Go to PROG button).
I'm not familiar with Reason 5, but many midi track recorders need each instrument assigned to different midi chanels to be heard back. Check the manual in how to assign the midi tracks. Also, the playback has to be through a unit that is multi timbrel capable. Good luck!
It is possible that there iis a compnent failure in teh POR (Power-on-reset) circuit. This is NOT DIY unless you are adept at electronics. I do NOT have the shematic for this keyboard. I looked at the schematic for a PA500 which MAY be similar and it has a touch screen. SOMETIMES dirt gets under the edge of a touch screens and confuses the processor with a false input. If yours fits this scenariom you might try running a piece of copy paper under the edge where the case hits the LCD screen.
This sounds like a failure of the LCD connections at the LCD sandwich. It may require replacement of the LCD screen. If one is careful and is adept at electronics, one can DIY this. Be caareful to keep track of screws and location and be very careful of the cables within the unit. If you are unsure of your capabilities, best to take this to a competent electronics repair shop.
Have a look in your manual at the sections on Note Repeat and Time Division.NOTE REPEAT] – Holding this button while striking a pad causes the pad to retrigger at a rate based on the current Tempo and Time Division settings. The Note Repeat feature can be synced to an internal or external MIDI Clock source. [NOTE REPEAT] can function as a latching or momentary button 19. [TIME DIVISION] – This button is used to specify the rate of the Note Repeat and Arpeggiator features. When [TIME DIVISION] is activated, you can press one of the 8 switches to specify a time division. [TIME DIVISION] can function as a momentary or toggle button. Please note that while [TIME DIVISION] is active, the 8 assignable buttons will not function as MIDI CC or Program Change switches until [TIME DIVISION] has been de-activated. 20.
