I have a Kenwood KDW12ST3A that intermittently shows E1 Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi
E1 means no inlet pressure. Sometimes fault code shows if machine takes too long to fill. Kindly check for blockage in inlet pipe. Also check if water inlet is not filling and check if the water outlet valve is opening and there is sufficient water pressure.

Please do rate the solution as "FixYa" and revert for any clarifications.
Thanks

E1 indicated long filling time. Perhaps the inlet filter has clogged. Check the inlet pipe and tap(faucet in usa).

kinked or crushed

Found the online manual for this model, it is a PDF file so you will need 'Adobe Reader' to read it. (click on link)
