If you disrupted the camera during a firmware upgrade then you will have to send it to Nikon as it will require either replacement of the main circuit or complete reprogramming of the circuit with Nikon's proprietary software.

SOURCE: Nikon D80 Exposure Count

My camera is now fixed. It was a tiny speck of dirt on the sensors between the mounting of the lense & the camera. The uy that fixed it said it is a problem with the camera because they are so sensitive.

SOURCE: nikon d80 frame count

264 is the minimum number of shots you can fit onto the memory card. A shot with large areas of black or white uses less memory than a more complex image and so the camera recalculates the number of shots remaining and so the number appears to go back up to it's original value.

SOURCE: Nikon D80

Hi taylorrm, I don't know if you have a solution to this but sometimes the AE-L/AF-L but gets pushed which is the auto focus lock button then the shutter release button cannot be used to focus and yu have to reset by pressing it again.  Even though it's confusing at first it's a feature along with the AE/AF Lock to try out to lock your focal area on a subject prior to shooting.
To sbhoward5, check to make sure the switch on the camera body is switched to AF instead of M mode(looking at the front it's on the lower right hand side below the lens release button), which sometimes happens when changing the lens - so then the mode selected is in P,S,A, or M modes on the mode dial. happy shooting,

PG UP error message

Did you change the USB settings in order to get the firmware on the memory card? if so, try to set it back.
If anything went wrong with the update process, like wrong memory card, touched a button while the update was running switched off or removed a cable. and and and. The camera can become damaged, or unusable. Nikon gives the advice to go to a Nikon service centre with the camera.

PG UP ERROR IN NIKON D 200 CAMERA

Is this a D80 or a D200?

If you had a failure during firmware upgrade, then your circuit board is trashed. Send it to Nikon - it requires software to replace.

My d80 stops functioning and shows F----!! Any help would be great thanks.

This is usually a lens issue. If the lens is not properly attached or the lens is a non-cpu lens it shows this error. If you are using an older non-cpu, you have to switch to M-mode to use it.
