I have a Maytag Centennial top loading washing machine that I purchased over a year ago. Yesterday, I put in a load of clothes to wash. It will will not wash. The green sensor light comes on and the red lock/start light comes on and they just keep blinking. I pushed the lock/pause/start button and it unlocks the lid of the machine. Then when the lid was closed again it will not lock so the machine will not work. How do I fix this problem?

SOURCE: lopsided during spin

This can be caused by a brake that has failed.  Try to spin inner tub with washer off.  It should NOT turn.  If it turns the brake is bad and is allowing the tub to spin when agitating.  This causes clthes to bunch up.

SOURCE: Black mark on clothes after washed in Maytag top load washer.

Check and make sure the seal at the bottom of the washer is not wore out. Alot of times you will get grease from the bearins and drum assembly if this wears out.

I have a Maytag Centennial top load washer. When washing in normal or heavy with large or super load size, the washer remains in sensing mode. Some water does start to fill, but never reaches wash cycle....

This unit does not handle a super large load as it advertised. When you put a super large load, the sensor is over-sized and will not move on the next cycle.

check to make sure it is sitting level on the floor and one leg adjuster hasnt backed in making it shake. But even when you stick cloths in evenly they can bunch up during cycles.

Spin cycle not working properly. A little water (1 inch) is left and clothes are heavy with water. I tried the spin cycle repeatedly - water still at bottom of tub.

I just purchased a Maytag centennial washer. I just love it the Maytag products arethe best. Question I am using the HE detergents as the book suggests, however how much bleach do I use?

According to page 6 of the manual for the "3 cu. ft. Capacity Maytag® Centennial® Top Load Washer" and page 8 of the manual for the "Centennial® High-Efficiency Top Load Washer", not more than 1 cup (250 ml) should be used in either machine.

Also, it should be added to the dispenser cup on the front left of the machine - not directly to the wash as it will interfere with the detergents ability to clean the clothes.

I hope this helps & good luck. Please rate my reply. Thanks.

I have a Maytag Centennial top loading washing machine that I bought about a year ago. All of a sudden, a few weeks ago for no reason, it will not run cycles correctly. i.e. it will start a cycle in...

From the research I did on this problem, it was suggested the water level/ temperature control valve was bad. I bought a new one and replaced it today. That was the culprit. I looked on you tube for a video on how to replace and it was a five minute job. The part was $85 but can be found cheaper on the internet. While at the part store a guy heard the part I was asking for and immediately asked if I had a Maytag. Apparently this is a common problem with this line of washers. I also found out that this problem is caused by opening the lid after the cycle is started. Word to the wise, gather all your laundry then start the cycle. If you have something left over, leave it for the next load unless you have a stack of money lying around.
