SOURCE: four stoke mower. Mower starts and runs ok but
Your ignition coil is failing when it gets hot.make sure the cooling fins on the flywheel are not plugged up.you will probably have to replace the coil.
SOURCE: 4.5 HP Briggs engine, runs
where did you get the "new" fuel from?
You may have a sticking float -- I did not read where you said you "CLEANED" the carb, but only "blew it out..." you might need to get back in there and give it a cleaning to remove any varnish build up from the fuel...
Best regards

Usually answered in minutes!
Just today I checked the flywheel key and found it was 1/2 sheared! Replaced it and thought I had the problem solved ...... but NO! It was a cool day (77 F) so machine ran for 20 minutes before stopping. At least it idles nice an smooth now at a very low speed. This stoppage seems to be temperature related, not fuel related. So now I have checked everything mechanical, electrical and fuel related. This unit is driving me crazy! Wes in Hawaii
AlthoughI found no help on FixYa.com, I did get help from Briggs & Stratton Tech Support. Hopefully their information will help someone else with a similar problem. The answer is a bad fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carb float bowl (Nikki carb only). According the B&S Tech Support, the purpose of this solenoid is to prevent backfire when shutting down the engine. This solenoid when going bad heats ITSELF to the point of failure in 10 to 20 minutes depending on ambient temp. Restarting the engine resets the solenoid as long as it is cool enough to reset. To test, replace the solenoid with an M8x1.0 bolt sealed with Teflon tape. Wes now relaxing in Hawaii.
